Intramural Volleyball and 3-on-3 Basketball

Please see the Intramural Board for information concerning volleyball and three-on-three basketball. Volleyball league play will begin on Monday, Oct. 22 and run on Mondays until Dec. 10. Three-on-three Basketball will run on Thursdays beginning Oct. 25 and go until Dec.13. With a short turn-around time to get your rosters in, please make this a priority so we can schedule your team in the league. Rosters for volleyball can be picked up and returned to the drop-off box next to the IM Board no later than Thursday, Oct. 18. That gives us time to schedule the games and get the information out to the captains. Three-on-three rosters can be returned by Monday, Oct. 22. Again, all rosters can be found in the drop boxes by the IM Board in the basement of Melby.

MPIRG Winter Clothing Drive

The student organization MPIRG (Minnesota Public Interest Research Group) is having a winter clothing drive! It will be held from Monday, Oct. 15 to Thursday, Oct. 25. MPIRG will be donating the clothes to the Marie Sandvik Center on East Franklin Avenue. The items of clothing that are most needed are winter jackets, shoes/boots, mittens, and warm layers, but whatever you can donate will be much appreciated. Thank you so much! If we try our best, we can help make the winter months a little easier for those less fortunate than ourselves.

To donate clothes, see your RA or CA if you live in Urness or Mortensen. If you live in Anderson, Luther Hall, or Oren Gateway, there will be a few boxes on the main floor in the lobby of your building. There will also be boxes in the Christensen Center lobby as well as the Enrollment Center.

Jane Fonda Movie Night at Augsburg House

Jane Fonda is coming to speak on campus – wouldn't you like to see some of her movies? Join us for popcorn, movies, and discussion, hosted by Abigail Pribbenow at Augsburg House, 2848 West River Parkway:

Wednesday, Oct. 17: "Georgia Rule" (with Lindsay Lohan)
From the Internet Movie Database:
Rebellious teenager Rachel screams, swears, drinks and is - in a word - uncontrollable. With her latest car crash, Rachel has broken the final rule in mom Lily's San Francisco home. With nowhere else to take the impulsive and rambunctious girl, Lily hauls her daughter to the one place she swore she'd never return...her own mother's Idaho farm. Matriarch Georgia is not your typical sweet and doting grandmother. She lives her life by a number of unbreakable rules, demanding anyone who shares her home do the same - God comes first and hard work comes a very close second. Now saddled with raising the young woman, it will require each patient breath she takes to understand Rachel's fury. But as Rachel succumbs to her summer of misery and shakes up the tiny Mormon town, Georgia notices something is changing within her granddaughter. Given structure and responsibilities, Rachel is letting her guard down and learning compassion...especially for her mother. Her journey will lead all three women to revelations of buried family secrets and an understanding that - regardless of what happens - the ties that bind can never be broken.

Wednesday, Oct. 24: "Julia" (with Vanessa Redgrave and Meryl Streep)
Wednesday, Nov. 7: "9 to 5" (with Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton)

The show starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by discussion. Campus Security can escort you to the house if you need a ride. Call x1717 to make arrangements.

After the meeting, we'll play medieval board games, as we have in the past. These are NOT "Dungeons & Dragons"-type games, but they are authentic, historic games that were played in the Middle Ages.

THE DECEPTION
adapted by Steven Epp and Dominique Serrand
from "La Fausse Suivante" by Pierre Marivaux
directed by Dominique Serrand
Oct. 13 - Nov. 25
first presented at La Jolla Playhouse, July 17 - Aug. 19, 2007

"a dark, tantalizing, thoroughly Jeune Lune vision… remarkable!"
— The San Diego Union-Tribune

Suspecting her husband-to-be of betrayal, a fetching young heiress disguises herself as a knight to woo the hand of the countess he desires. In this new adaptation of an 18th century romp, Theatre de la Jeune Lune brings their incomparable wit and physical exuberance to the perils of courtships in a deliciously nasty game of love, sex and power.

Ultimate Tryouts (Spring Team)

The last ultimate tryout will be held this Friday, Oct. 19 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. (please arrive 15 minutes early) on Edor Nelson Field. Tryouts are meant to determine the team(s) that will represent Augsburg College in a booming sport. Potential players are required to make only one of these dates. If these days do not work, please let me, Justin or Al know ASAP, so we can determine if we need another day of tryouts or something else.

Tryouts will be based on seven core skills of an ultimate player. These include endurance, throwing, catching, defense, offense, overall game-play and teamwork. To test these strengths, there will be several drills and exercises, including a 1-mile run with a target time between 6 and 7.5 minutes. Throwing will include forehand and backhand, nothing else. On the day of tryouts, please bring a white shirt and a dark shirt (people with gray shirts will be punished), a disc (if you have one, put your name on it), cleats (if you don't have cleats, wear flats; barefoot is not acceptable), water, and arrive 15 minutes early, as we will start on time.

*During all tryouts, we will be using UPA Rules

For more information, contact brownp@augsburg.edu or fever@augsburg.edu
