Betsey Norgard, Director of Publications, Public Relations and Communication

Message: Discover all the exciting features of the new Oren Gateway Center today from 1:30 to 3:30. Explore this new building, just as it’s ready for move-in. Pick up a floor plan at the welcome desk area to guide you around the areas. Stop in to see the great selection of books and Auggie gear at the Augsburg Bookstore and taste some treats at Nabo—A Neighborhood Café.

You may also visit a room in the residence hall before students are all moved in. This beautiful living and learning environment will be home to our special interest and StepUP students.

On Wed., Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., there will also be an Open House to explore the building and visit the offices, bookstore, and Nabo. Stay tuned for details.

Subject: Peace Games- Volunteers Needed
Submitter:
Mary Laurel True, Associate Director, Center for Service Work and Learning

Message:

Augsburg alum (Krista Pearson) is looking for volunteers this Thursday, August 9 for the Park Board's annual Peace Games event to take place at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (in Fair Oaks Park across from the museum on 24th Street). Hundreds of youth from around the city come together that afternoon to learn about global cultures, do art, and play games.

Volunteer positions:

1. 2-4 Rec Plus Tour guides
11 am to 2 pm
People who can help to move small groups of children and their chaperons from object to object in a timely manner. You will be given a particular route of 4 art objects and asked to move on every five minutes. I 'll have a watch for you to use and will provide you with a new MIA t?shirt to wear and keep for your efforts.

2. 4-8 Art Support 11:30 ? 2 1:30- 4 or both
The park will host several tents representing different areas of the world. At each tent the MIA will provide a hands on art activity to engage the student visitors. We would like plenty of adult supervision to keep these activities going smoothly.
I can give everyone free tickets to the Mirror of Nature exhibit to use at your leisure. There are a number of tee shirts, black with a white peony image, available for those who volunteer with Art Support

The event is a lot of fun with music and play from around the world.
If you want to come with parade gear, there will be a mini parade around 1:45pm,
(to get the Rec Plus students back on their buses!)
What is parade gear? Fun and inspiring attitude, dress, puppets, flags, and instruments.

If you're interested in volunteering, please call Krista Pearson at 612- 242-4490.
