Subject: Reminder: Campus Phone System Down on Sat. June 30

Submitter:
Bradley J Christ, Director of Information Technology Systems, Information Technology

Message: In preparation for the Oren Gateway Center, we are performing a major upgrade to the campus telephone system this Saturday, June 30th, beginning at 6:00am. This upgrade, the first in nearly 15 years, will require the entire system to be down for approximately 4 hours. During this time, you will not be able to make or receive calls from campus telephones. The voicemail system will be unavailable; callers will not be able to leave messages, and you will not have access to check your voicemail box--even from off campus.

After the upgrade is complete, your telephone will continue to work as before. Some of the voicemail prompts will sound different (the new system is called Call Pilot), but your voicemail greetings, messages, and pin will not change. As always, please contact your LFC for questions regarding your phone or voicemail.

A special number will be available to reach Public Safety staff during the downtime: 612-366-7921.

Subject: Commencement 2007

Submitter:
Barbara Edwards Farley, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, Academic Affairs

Message: In addition to President Pribbenow's words of appreciation, I would like to thank the many individuals and departments who contributed their time and energy to make both of this year's Commencement ceremonies a great success!

In May we celebrated the graduation of Master of Physician Assistant Studies candidates and Day School students. At Sunday's ceremony we celebrated the graduation of candidates for Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Leadership, Master of Arts in Nursing, and Master of Social Work, as well as Weekend College and Rochester, United/Mercy/Unity Hospitals Program candidates. Students and their guests enjoyed Commencement day events and I am pleased to report we were able to keep everyone cool in air-conditioned buildings on both occasions.

Great effort went into the detailed planning for each Commencement day's series of events, and I extend my gratitude to each of you for your contribution.

Subject: Joan Griffin Accepts New Position

Submitter:
Judith A Green, Academic Affairs Project Manager, Academic Affairs

Message: To the Augsburg College Community:

Joan Griffin, Associate Dean for General Education and Professor of English, has accepted the position of Dean of Arts and Sciences at California Lutheran University. Please join me in congratulating Joan and wishing her well as she prepares to assume this key role.

Joan’s many students over the years have benefited from her passion for teaching and learning. She puts students at the center of her work. As a faculty member in the English Department since 1986, past co-Director of the Honors Program, Director of General Education, President of the Faculty Senate, and most recently as Associate Dean for General Education, Joan has contributed widely to the development of a vision for the College that is deeply rooted in its mission. Her work as co-author of the College’s first vision document—Augsburg 2004: Extending the Vision, and its successor, The Augsburg Vocation: Access and Excellence, has made a lasting impact on the way the College defines itself.

Joan’s important contributions to Augsburg include her leadership of the design team that developed the Augsburg Core Curriculum. This year she chaired the AugCore Subcommittee of the Academic Affairs Committee, which focuses on the implementation of the AugCore Curriculum. In addition, Joan’s work as the chair of the Council of Independent College’s task force on the examination of the first year of college brought national recognition for Augsburg’s programs. She has been leading an initiative on the developmental curriculum that this year included the creation of a partnership with St. Kate’s titled, Augsburg Advantage at The College of St. Catherine.

I am deeply grateful to Joan for her years of service and leadership at Augsburg College. We will miss her wisdom, insight, and humor, and wish her great success as she continues her vocational journey in Lutheran higher education at California Lutheran University.

Joan’s last day at Augsburg will be July 31. Please join the campus community in celebrating her contributions to Augsburg at a reception that will be held on July 19 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the East Commons.
