Call for Proposals - Summer 2007


The Instructional and Course Design initiative within the Center for Teaching and Learning invites proposals for design-based course-related projects to be undertaken during Summer 2007 and completed by the end of Fall term 2007. The proposal timeline is short (proposals are Due May 4), proposal turnaround will be fast (decisions by May 11), and the opportunities for support and collaboration in this first exploration into a new way of thinking about and doing our pedagogical work will be remarkable. All faculty who are creating new learning experiences or revising existing ones are encouraged to submit.

The Financial Aid Office will be offering an Exit Counseling Session today from 6:30 to 7:30pm in Christiansen Center in the Marshall Room. In this session you will learn about repayment terms, budgeting and what does consolidation mean. If you are not able to make it to this event you can also complete your Exit Loan Counseling online at www.mapping-your-future.com. Once on this page you will click on Student Loan Counseling Interview, then Stafford Exit. We will receive notice that you've completed this form and make note of it on your account.

Message: The Campus Connections luncheon is scheduled for Friday, April 27 at noon in East Commons. We will meet at the top of the stairs and find a table in East Commons. After introductions we will go through the cafeteria line at 12:20 so everyone will have time to eat before a 1 p.m. class commitment.

Mostly this is a time to gather as a community and have lunch with a colleague you might not know, or reacquaint yourself with someone you may have met and don't usually have a chance to talk with. The conversation will be interesting and the food plentiful.

If you didn't have a chance to stop by the booth, we invite you to consider using the HOURCAR as an alternative way of commuting as you plan your individual and department business travel...Please sign up now...New drivers, applying this week only, will have their membership fee waived.

It takes just a few minutes to apply on-line. Here's how:

1. start at the HOURCAR home page, www.HOURCAR.org
2. click on the "Join Us" icon, (blue figure with briefcase waving)
3. click on the link, "Additional Drivers"
4. Type "Augsburg College" in the line for "Member Name"
5. Fill in the rest of the form.
6. Use "AUG17" in the line for promotional code

All business related travel will be charged to the Augsburg account. If you would like to use the car for personal appointments, a personal account can also be opened. Drivers will be responsible for covering all personal expenses which can be invoiced or paid electronically.

Brief on-campus New Member Orienations will soon be scheduled for drivers under the Augsburg College membership. New Member Orientation is a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of HOURCAR membership, learn about making and changing reservations as well as specific "how-to" information related to driving a Toyota Prius. Each driver will also be asked to submit one "Attachment B" form and will receive his or her own key fob and login to the online reservation system.

Message: Just a last minute reminder before you leave for Summer Break. Since your last day for the semester is May 3, 2007 and some of you might be going home for the summer, here is what you need to do to get your pay check if you can’t pick it up at the Enrollment Center. You need to submit a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Human Resources Department for your May paycheck, and we will mail out your check. If you work hours in May, you’ll also need a self-addressed stamped envelope for June.

Subject: Camp Noah Volunteer Opportunity

Message: The children in the Gulf Coast need our help now more than ever! They need the fun and healing that Camp Noah can bring.
Camp Noah is a fun-filled, faith-based, week-long day camp for children K-6 who have experienced disaster. Camp Noah is being requested by numerous disaster-impacted communities as a means to help their children affected by hurricanes Rita and Katrina in 2005 who are still dealing with feelings of loss and fear. Camp Noah offers the structure, connectedness and play children need to build resiliency and hope.

We are in need of individuals who can give a week to volunteer -
Louisiana or Alabama...June 17-22, 2007
Spanish speaking(Need not be fluent) in Biloxi, Mississippi...June 15-21 or July 22-28

Training, flight, and housing is paid for. The only cost to volunteer is evening meals.

Message: The Girls in Engineering, Mathematics and Science (GEMS) and the Gise In Science and Engineering (GISE) will be employing 10-12 undergraduates (female and male focusing in education, math, science, engineering or related fields) students starting mid June through mid August. This 16 hour a week (GEMS: Tuesday/Thursday; GISE: Monday/ Wednesday) mentoring posting gives Augsburg undergraduates valuable experience working with middle school girls and boys in academically enriched projects (robotics, building the surface of the Moon, the chemistry of cosmetics, etc.) Augsburg students must be eligible for work-study; $12.50-13.00/hour. Message: ANNOUNCING THE $1,000 REWOLDT STUDENT PEACE INITIATIVE PRIZE
Undergraduates students at Augsburg College are invited to compete for the Rewoldt Student Peace Initiative award in conjunction with the annual Nobel Peace Prize Forum. A $1,000 award will go to a student recognizing an outstanding essay or project focused on the theme:
"The Opportunity and Challenge of Direct Democracy."
The essay or project should involve research on the concept of direct democracy and include a bibliography. The winner will need to make a 10-minute summary presentation at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum to be held at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota on March 7-8, 2008.

Interested students should submit a 200-word abstract by November 1, 2007, describing the direction of the essay or project.
