Subject: 'Invitation to Design' workshop TODAY and Tuesday
Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message:

Workshops intended to enable faculty to use a systematic, purposeful approach to revising, creating, and maintaining learning experiences. All workshops are offered twice and are scheduled from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Cedar Room of the Christensen Center.

Faculty considering applying for Instructional and Course Design support for Summer 2007 are strongly encouraged to attend.

Brain science, ‘best practice’, and instructional design April 9 and 10. Bring your favorite ‘best practice’ guiding principles for an exploration of the relationship between these and brain science and how this can inform intentional choice in crafting learning experiences.
Cedar Room

The designing professor: changing students on purpose April 24 and 25. Bring a learning experience you’ve been working on to dip your pedagogical toes into the waters of design. We’ll work with a process that starts by identifying the change(s) we want in our students and progresses systematically (but not too fast!) to creating experiences that not only change and empower students, but also enable us to develop a habit of reflective empathy in our work.

Subject: Support the Esperanza Health Center and Win Money!
Submitter:
Katie Peterson, Student

Message: Make Friday the 13th YOUR lucky day! The Augsburg Physician Assistant Program is beginning a fundraising raffle on campus the week of April 9th-13th. This is a 50/50 raffle, where half of the funds generated from the raffle will go to the winning ticket holder and the other half of the funds will go directly to Esperanza Health Center, a free walk-in clinic in North Philadelphia. This is the charity being sponsored during the annual national conference of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Members of the PA program at Augsburg will join PAs and other PA students from across the country at the national conference at the end of May in Philadelphia where they will donate the proceeds generated from this fundraiser to the Esperanza Health Center. Supporting the Esperanza Health Center is a special goal for the program this year because current first-year PA student Kristie Kunnari spent a year working and volunteering at Esperanza before beginning the PA program at Augsburg. “Working at EHC, and providing healthcare to an underserved, multicultural population, is what motivated me to apply to PA school in the first place. This organization is strongly committed to their local community and serving people who otherwise wouldn’t get quality healthcare.”

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for $5 each in the Christensen Center over the lunch hour April 9, 10, 12, and 13. Each ticket purchased is an entry to win the jackpot, which will be drawn Friday April 13th at noon (the winner does not need to be present to win). The more people who enter the raffle, the bigger the jackpot will be! The raffle is open to students, staff, family, friends, and the public. You can help the PA program support a wonderful cause and also have a chance to win half the proceeds! If you wish to purchase tickets outside these designated times please contact Katie Peterson at petersok@augsburg.edu.
