Message:
* JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT THE LAST DAY FOR PAPER PARKING REGISTRATION IS THURSDAY, JUNE 15TH! FORMS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE CHRISTENSEN INFO DESK, HUMAN RESOURCES, AND PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCH - CALL KRISTA AT x1711 WITH QUESTIONS.

* There will be a few changes in the parking process for next year - please read below!

* Fall 2006 ticketing will begin the first day of school for all students, faculty, and staff.

* Faculty and staff who are willing to use payroll deduction for parking payment during the 2006-07 school year may register for permits beginning Monday, April 24th. Public Safety will mail out permits before school begins.

* In order to register for a permit, please fill out a "Payroll Deduction & Parking Registration" form. You may find these forms at the CC Info Desk, Public Safety Dispatch, or Human Resources beginning April 24th. Once completed, these forms may be returned to Public Safety at CB #78. The deadline for paper registration is Thursday, June 15th.

* Again, the deadline for paper registration is Thursday, June 15th. After this date, we will require online registration. Online registration will be available August 15th and throughout the school year. A payroll deduction option will still be available, but will be part of the online process available August 15th.

* Fac/staff permit prices will stay the same next year: $45 per month from September ö April for full-time employees. For part-time rates, please see the payroll deduction form.

* Instead of stickers, we will use hangtag permits next year, so each student will only need one and may use it in any vehicle.

* Gateway Building construction may begin this summer. Once construction begins, lot H (the main faculty/staff lot) will close. Lots available to faculty and staff will be lots D, G, J, and L.

* Augsburg's complete parking rules and regulations may be found online on Augsburg's homepage. Follow the links: Administration, Security, Additional Information, and Parking Information.

* Please direct all parking questions to Public Safety Dispatch at 612-330-1717 or x1717. We are open 24/7 for your convenience. If you prefer e-mail, please direct questions to parking@augsburg.edu and we will respond as soon as possible.

RE: FINAL GRADES - Spring Trimester - (WEC/ROC/Grad)

GRADES ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE 28 June 2006.

Please do not turn in grades late. Late grades cause problems for students requiring the grades for reimbursement, scholarship, graduation and admission to other programs.

GRADE ENTRY SCREEN
* Report a grade for every student on the list (except where - W - is displayed).
* Please enter grades by 28 June 2006 or earlier! PLEASE NO LATE GRADES!
* Please identify students that have stopped attending class and the date of last attendance.
* DO NOT LEAVE ANY BLANK GRADES

Please contact your departments Liaison for Computing person if you have a question on accessing AugNet. For those needing specific directions, they are available on-line at:

http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/registrar/index.html

Click on Faculty Grade Entry Procedures, other useful information can be found by clicking on Registrarâs New Faculty Handbook also.

Letter grades (ABCDF) are not used except for ACTC students. The following grading system is in effect:
4.0 Achieves highest standards of excellence
3.5
3.0 Achieves above basic course standards
2.5
2.0 Achieves basic standards for course
1.5
1.0 Performance below basic course standards
0.5
0.0 Unacceptable performance (no credit for the course)
P (2.0 or above) Meets minimum passing standard
N (Below 2.0) Does not meet minimum passing standard (no credit and non-punitive: not computed in grade point average)

If a student fails to report for a final examination, he or she should
receive a grade of 0.0 for that examination when you compute the final grade.

INCOMPLETE GRADES

* An incomplete grade, or - I, should be given only in the case of extreme emergency. To receive an incomplete grade, a student must receive permission of the instructor of the course; must file a form (available in the Enrollment Center or on-line at the above web address) stating the reasons for the request, the work required to complete the course, the plan and date for completing the work, and comments from the instructor; and must return the form to the Registrar's Office by the time grades are due for the term (28 June 2006).

* The necessary work must be completed in enough time to allow evaluation of the work by the instructor and filing of a grade before the final day of the following Semester.

* If the work is not completed by that date, the grade for the course becomes a 0.0.

DIRECTED STUDY, INDEPENDENT STUDY, OR INTERNSHIP

* If a Directed Study, Independent Study, or Internship is to be extended over a second term, indicate this by a grade of - X. Please remind students receiving an - X - that they are expected to continue communication and demonstrate satisfactory progress with their instructor in order to receive a credit and grade at the end of that term. They must complete the study within one year of their initial registration; after that, a new registration is necessary.

* An - X - grade can only be used for a Directed Study, Independent Study, and Internship unless prior arrangements have been made with the Registrar's Office.

AUDIT

Please inform the Registrar's Office via email if expectations not met for a student auditing your class. A grade of - V - (audit) is listed on the grade entry screen. If expectations have been met, the course will be listed on the student's record as having been audited. If expectations have not been met, the course will be listed with a grade of - W - (withdrawn).

VERY IMPORTANT

Grade are due in the Office of the Registrar no later than 28 June 2006. To comply with Federal Student Aid Regulations: If you have a student that stopped attending your class and you have assigned a grade of 0.0 or - N, please enter the date they last attended your class. Thank You.

Message: Augsburg alum Carolyn Ross Isaak named to USTFCCCA Silver Anniversary Team for NCAA Division III women's outdoor track and field

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/061406ross.html

MINNEAPOLIS (6/14/06) -- Augsburg College track and field alum Carolyn Ross Isaak '89 was named as one of the outstanding performers during the last 25 years in NCAA Division III women's outdoor track and field, as a member of the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Silver Anniversary Team, it was announced on Tuesday.

A panel of USTFCCCA coaches selected an outstanding individual performer in each of the women's outdoor track and field events during the last quarter-century to the Silver Anniversary Team, following the Division III outdoor championships in May in Lisle, Ill. The team was named as part of the NCAA's 25th anniversary celebration of its women's championships.

Ross Isaak was named as the outstanding performer of the past quarter-century in the women's 400-meter hurdles. She won titles in the event in both 1988 and 1989, and her 1989 championship time of 58.99 seconds in the event is still the NCAA Division III national meet record.

The most decorated individual student-athlete in Augsburg history, Ross Isaak earned five individual national titles, nine All-American honors and 13 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference individual championships in track and field. In addition to the 400-meter hurdles titles, she also earned NCAA Division III individual titles in the indoor 400-meter dash in 1988 and 1989, and in the outdoor 400-meter dash in 1989.

She was Augsburg's Women's Honor Athlete in 1989. She was a medalist in the 1990 U.S. Olympic Festival and was a U.S. Olympic Trials participant in 1992. A Cum Laude graduate, she served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach and admissions counselor at Augsburg from 1990-92. From 1992-99, she served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at Purdue University. The Boilermakers won the Big Ten track team championship in 1999, and while there, she coached an NCAA and Pan Am Games heptathlon national champion, as well as the current American record-holder in the indoor 60-meter dash.

She returned to Minnesota in 1999, when she began working at Gustavus Adolphus College as track and field associate head coach and assistant director of admissions. She and her husband, Jim, now live in Rochester, Minn. She was inducted into Augsburg's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.

Ross Isaak is one of four MIAC athletes to be included on the USTFCCCA Division III Silver Anniversary Team. Also included from MIAC schools:

Kelly Copps of St. Thomas (10,000-meter run), three-time champion in 10,000-meter run (1993, 1994, 1995) and 1994 champion in 5,000-meter run;
Kristal Grigsby of St. Thomas (long jump), two-time champion (2004, 2006) and third-place (2005) finisher in the long jump;
Kristin Kuehl of Concordia-Moorhead (discus), three-time champion and current record-holder (55.02 meters) in discus throw (1990, 1991, 1992), and a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team in the event.

Message: Augsburg's Ryan Valek named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Men's At-Large First Team

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/061306valek.html

MINNEAPOLIS (6/13/06) -- For the second year in a row, Augsburg College wrestler Ryan Valek (Sr., Belle Plaine, Minn./Scott West) was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Men's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced on Tuesday.

A third-team selection last year, Valek was one of 15 student-athletes named to the first team this year. A total of 48 male student-athletes were named to the three Academic All-America teams.

A three-time All-American wrestler for the Auggies, Valek repeated his individual national runner-up finish at 165 pounds in the 2005-06 season, finishing 41-4. His lone losses on the season came to a defending Division I All-American, the 2006 Division II national champion and the 2006 Division III national champion. Valek had a 28-match winning streak during the season.

Valek also finished second nationally in 2004-05 with a 34-7 record, while finishing seventh nationally in 2003-04 with a 38-10 record. He finished his career with a 133-39 record, accumulating 39 pins, four technical falls and 20 major decisions, and was a part of Auggie teams that won a national title in 2004-05, while finishing second twice (2002-03, 2003-04) and third this season.

Academically, Valek is an accounting major with a 3.74 grade-point average. He earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Scholar All-America honors in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and was named an Augsburg Senior Honor Athlete (the highest honor Augsburg gives senior student-athletes) in 2006. Valek was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first team for the second year in a row in May.

Since 1981, Augsburg student-athletes have earned 18 Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA, including seven first-team selections. Valek is the fourth Auggie to ever earn two Academic All-America honors, joining Josh Cagle (wrestling, 1999-2000), Scott Hvistendahl (football, 1997-98) and Karen Sterner (women's track and field, 1986-87).

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is administered by CoSIDA. Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs, who have already earned Academic All-District first-team honors, are eligible for inclusion on the team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. The Academic All-America ballot is voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. The men's at-large team awards student-athletes in 12 sports -- golf, rifle, volleyball, gymnastics, skiing, water polo, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, wrestling, lacrosse and tennis.
