Message: Track and Field 5/12-13/06 -- Augsburg at MIAC Outdoor Championships
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/track/0506statistics/051306miac.html

ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/12-13/06) -- For the third time in her career, Tonnisha Bell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) claimed the conference title in the women's 100-meter dash, while adding a conference title in the 200-meter dash for the second straight year, leading the Augsburg College track and field teams at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championships, held Friday and Saturday at the University of St. Thomas' O'Shaughnessy Stadium.

Bell won the 100-meter dash in 12.00 seconds, while claiming the 200 in 25.07 seconds. Bell has now won 11 conference championships (six indoor, five outdoor) and earned All-MIAC honors 15 times (nine indoor, six outdoor) in her career.

A three-time indoor All-American (in 55-meter dash; second in 2006, sixth in 2003 and 2005), Bell will attempt to earn her first outdoor All-American honor at the NCAA Division III national championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., May 25-27. She has automatically qualified for the championships in the 100 (11.95 seconds), while provisionally qualifying in the 200 (24.82 seconds). According to the Raceberry Jam.com website, Bell's 100 time is the third-fastest among Division III runners, while her 200 time is 11th-fastest.

Bell ran the anchor leg of an Augsburg 400-meter relay squad that set its fourth school record of the season, with a 49.53-second effort in the preliminaries. The quartet of Felicia Faison (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Jessica Nordness (So., Burnsville, Minn.), Megan Krumrie (Fr., Elk Mound, Wis.) and Bell finished fourth with a 50.35-second time in the finals.

Angela Bergeson (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.), who has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships in the women's 800-meter run (2:12.76), placed third in the event in the MIAC meet, finishing in 2:15.72 in the finals. Her 2:12.76 best time currently ranks ninth-fastest nationally among Division III runners.

On the men's side, Augsburg's Tony Ciro (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) earned All-MIAC honors with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.59 seconds), while earning All-MIAC honorable-mention honors with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.12 seconds).

Spencer Power (Jr., Montgomery, Minn./Montgomery-Lonsdale HS) also earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors with a fifth-place finish in the men's discus, with a 43.97-meter (144-feet, 3.0-inches) effort. He also finished seventh in the men's hammer throw (42.90 meters/140-feet, 9.0-inches).

Also earning All-MIAC honorable-mention honors was Kevin Haglund (Jr., Fridley, Minn./Concordia Academy HS), who finished sixth in the men's triple jump with a 13.22-meter (43-feet, 4.5-inches) effort.

Augsburg's men's 400-meter relay squad of Steve Houser (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS), Haglund, D.J. Wendell (Fr., Princeton, Minn.) and Ciro placed fifth in 43.90 seconds.

Augsburg will have one more meet to qualify individuals for the NCAA outdoor championships, at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Last Chance Qualifier on Friday (5/19) at 4 p.m.

Message: Augsburg baseball to play at Division I Minnesota on Tuesday 5/16
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/051206baseball.html

MINNEAPOLIS (5/12/06) -- The 2006 Augsburg College baseball season is not over yet.

Augsburg will play a single, nine-inning game against the Division I University of Minnesota Golden Gophers on Tuesday (5/16) at 6:30 p.m. at Siebert Field on the Minnesota campus. It is the first time Division III Augsburg has faced their crosstown bretheren since 1989.

The game has been added after Minnesota was unable to reschedule a contest with Augsburg's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival, St. Thomas, after the game was postponed due to weather twice.

Augsburg will enter the game with an 18-19-1 record, having completed its MIAC season at 8-12. Minnesota is 24-23 going into this weekend's four-game Big Ten series at Ohio State. Minnesota is currently 11-13 in Big Ten play, and will complete its regular season after the Augsburg game with a four-game series against Indiana May 19-21 at the Metrodome.
