UID is an approach to teaching that consists of proactive design and the use of inclusive instructional strategies that benefit a broad range of learners, including students with disabilities. She will share these principles and highlight what is often the most difficult principle to implement: Determining Essential Course or Program Requirements. MINNEAPOLIS (5/4/06) -- Augsburg College will formally break ground for construction of the south-wing expansion project at Si Melby Hall, the college's main athletic facility, in a ceremony on Friday (5/5) at 11:15 a.m. at the construction site.

The addition, named the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center, will add a wrestling training facility, increased classroom space, expanded locker-room facilities and expanded fitness facilities, as well as hospitality, meeting-room and office space.

During the past two years, the college has received a $2 million gift from Fridley natives Dean Kennedy '75, and his wife Terry, and a $1 million gift from National Wrestling Hall of Fame member and Minnesota native Alan Rice (in memory of his wife Gloria) to help spearhead the Si Melby Hall expansion project.

The Si Melby Hall expansion project is one segment of Augsburg's "Access to Excellence" campaign. The goal of the campaign is to help ensure that Augsburg's model of "Transforming Education" is available for future generations. The centerpiece of the campaign is the construction of a new Science Center and renovation of the existing Science Hall. In addition to the Si Melby Hall expansion, other components of the campaign include the construction of a Gateway Building on Riverside Avenue -- which would house the college's alumni center, StepUP program and retail facilities for the campus and community -- along with endowment support and annual giving growth.
