Subject: Spring Semester Grades Due 12 May

Submitter:
Wayne Kallestad, Registrar, Registrar's Office

Message: GRADES ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE May 12, 2006.

Do not turn in grades late. Late grades cause problems for students requiring the grades for reimbursement, scholarship, graduation and admission to other programs.

GRADE ENTRY SCREEN
* Report a grade for every student on the list (except where - W - is displayed).
* For students from one of the other ACTC colleges, please provide the Registrarâs Office with their grade.
* Please enter grades by May 12, 2006 or earlier! PLEASE NO LATE GRADES!
* Please identify students that have stopped attending class and the date of last attendance.

Please contact your departments Liaison for Computing person if you have a question on your PIN. For those needing specific directions, they are available on-line at:

http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/registrar/index.html

Click on Faculty Grade Entry Procedures, other useful information can be found by clicking on Registrarâs New Faculty Handbook also.

Letter grades (ABCDF) are not used except for ACTC students. The following grading system is in effect:
4.0 Achieves highest standards of excellence
3.5
3.0 Achieves above basic course standards
2.5
2.0 Achieves basic standards for course
1.5
1.0 Performance below basic course standards
0.5
0.0 Unacceptable performance (no credit for the course)
P (2.0 or above) Meets minimum passing standard
N (Below 2.0) Does not meet minimum passing standard (no credit and non-punitive: not computed in grade point average)

If a student fails to report for a final examination, he or she should
receive a grade of 0.0 for that examination when you compute the final grade.

INCOMPLETE GRADES

* An incomplete grade, or - I, should be given only in the case of extreme emergency. To receive an incomplete grade, a student must receive permission of the instructor of the course; must file a form (available in the Enrollment Center or on-line at the above web address) stating the reasons for the request, the work required to complete the course, the plan and date for completing the work, and comments from the instructor; and must return the form to the Registrar's Office by the time grades are due for the term (May 12, 2006).
* The necessary work must be completed in enough time to allow evaluation of the work by the instructor and filing of a grade before the final day of the following Semester.
* If the work is not completed by that date, the grade for the course becomes a 0.0.

DIRECTED STUDY, INDEPENDENT STUDY, OR INTERNSHIP

* If a Directed Study, Independent Study, or Internship is to be extended over a second term, indicate this by a grade of - X. Please remind students receiving an - X - that they are expected to continue communication and demonstrate satisfactory progress with their instructor in order to receive a credit and grade at the end of that term. They must complete the study within one year of their initial registration; after that, a new registration is necessary.

* An - X - grade can only be used for a Directed Study, Independent Study, and Internship unless prior arrangements have been made with the Registrar's Office.

AUDIT

Please inform the Registrarâs Office via email if expectations not met for a student auditing your class. A - V - (audit) is listed on the grade entry screen. If expectations have been met, the course will be listed on the student's record as having been audited. If expectations have not been met, the course will be listed with a grade of - W (withdrawn).

VERY IMPORTANT

Grade are due in the Office of the Registrar no later than May 12, 2006. To comply with Federal Student Aid Regulations: If you have a student that stopped attending your class and you have assigned a grade of 0.0 or - N, please enter the date they last attended your class. Thank You.

Subject: Universal Instructional Design

Submitter:
Regina Hopingardner, Administrative Assistant, CLASS Program

Message: Monday, May 15, 10-noon, Minneapolis Room.

Barbara Blacklock, disability specialist from the University of Minnesota, will present a workshop on Universal Instructional Design (UID). UID is an approach to teaching that consists of proactive design and the use of inclusive instructional strategies that benefit a broad range of learners, including students with disabilities. She will share these principles and highlight what is often the most difficult principle to implement, "Determining Essential Course or Program Requirements." Opportunities will be provided for participants to apply these tools and she will address how to take the next step, identifying technical standards for programs.

Complimentary lunch will follow the seminar.

RSVP to CLASS at x1053.

*Please visit the CLASS website if you want to read more about Universal Design before her presentation: http://www.augsburg.edu/classprogram/udi.html

Subject: Sad News about an MBA Student:

Submitter:
Jamie L Schiller, MBA Coordinator, Business-MIS

Message: Shika Addo, a student in MBA Cohort 10, passed away suddenly on 4/18/2006. Our MBA family misses her deeply. Please remember her and her family in your prayers.

We will be holding a memorial service for her on Wednesday, May 3rd at 4 p.m. in the Hoversten Chapel.

Shika Addo was the first child born to Kate and Ferdinand Addo on June 18, 1976 in Accra, Ghana. The Addo family relocated to the United States when Shika was only one-year-old. Shika attended college at Stanford University, spending her junior year studying abroad at Oxford University in England. True to her nature she graduated from Stanford with honors. Shika moved to Minneapolis in 1999 to work for the Augsburg Fortress. Most recently she served as a financial advisor at Ameriprise Financial (formerly American Express) and was also, of course, a Fellow in the MBA program here at Augsburg College. Her family noted that Shika consistently gave 150 percent to everything she did. Despite her rigorous schedule, she still found time to mentor and volunteer at the American Red Cross. She also took her responsibilities as the first born child very seriously, always looking out for her younger siblings. Shika touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be missed.

Subject: We're Going in the Ground on Gateway!

Submitter:
Kathryn Croyle, Administrative Assistant to the VP, Institutional Advancement

Message: Great news! Last Friday, Augsburg received a multi million dollar gift for the Gateway Building that allows us to begin construction this summer. Details are being finalized and we'll announce the identity of the donor in a big way very soon. We plan to ask the Board of Regents this week to authorize the financing necessary to break ground.

The Gateway Building will create a front door to our campus on 22nd and Riverside, and will house the residential and counseling components of the StepUP program; the offices and some of the classrooms of our MBA program; the Gage Art Gallery which is currently housed in the Library; Augsburg's Barnes & Nobles Bookstore; the Alumni Conference Center, and the administrative offices of most of the Advancement Division, most of which is currently housed off campus.

This gift brings us to almost $50 million of the $55 millions Access to Excellence Capital Campaign, and allows us to turn near exclusive attention to the Sciences Center.

Subject: Guest Percussionist

Submitter:
Elizabeth A Malmberg, Student

Message: There will be a a guest performance and clinic by drummer Walfredo de los Reyes Sr. on Tuesday, May 2 from 2-5:30 inthe band room.

Reyes is known internationally as an innovative drummer/percussionist. He was one of the first to mix jazz, pop, Cuban, and Caribbean rhythms using the drumset and percussion (such as congas, timbales, bongos, and cowbells) simultaneously.

Augsburg instructors Marv Dahlgren (drums and Fibes), Vlad Milenkovic (Piano), Anthony Cox (bass), and Elliot Fine (drums) will be performing with him.

Reyes is a clinician for Latin Percussion, DW Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Remo drum heads, and Regal Tip sticks. He emphasizes independence and versatility, demonstrating how ethnic rhythms generally played on percussion are adapted to the drumset, how a drummer and percussionist work together playing various rhythms such as songo, Mozambique, mambo, danzon, cha-cha, and many others as well as how all these thythms and instruments can be played by one person. His clinic tours throughout the United States, South America, and Canada have proven to be very successful.

I hope to see you here! This is a great opportunity! Please contact Robert Stacke at stacke@augsburg.edu or (612) 330-1271 with any questions.
