Subject: On-Line Student Feedback on Courses

Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message: Instructions: Augsburg College Fall 2005

Information Required for Faculty--

Beginning Friday November 18, 2005 students in each of your courses will receive an e-mail asking them to complete the on-line course form approved by the faculty in October 2005. There will be no formal Provost's office paper evaluation this year. You do not need to do anything to be a part of this project-- all courses are included automatically (with a few exceptions.) These instructions are very important with respect to obtaining information that is helpful to faculty and the College.

The e-mails asking students to participate are sent directly to each student registered for your courses. There is one survey per course. A student can log on any time during the 3 week window (ending Friday, December 9) and complete the survey. A student can save his or her progress if interrupted, but once the student submits the survey for a course it is final.

Students will receive up to 2 additional reminders during the 3 week window if they have not filled out the survey.

Surveys are confidential; no summary results go to faculty or administration until after grades are submitted in January.

What faculty should do:

1. Please tell students that they will receive an email that says "Augsburg College Course Evaluation" in subject line. They should not delete it; it is legitimate.

2. Please encourage students to complete the surveys as a contribution to our effectiveness at Augsburg. Your willingness to see this information as helpful goes a long way in student motivation. Any concerns about the current College policy should not be directed to students. Ethically, such concerns should be addressed to this committee and other formal groups.

3. The College policy is that participation is voluntary by students, but strongly encouraged. Students have an opportunity to take it on their own time and in private, so it would not be appropriate to bring a class to a lab and have them complete the form together.

Reminders:
ð Faculty will not see individual students' results; responses are confidential unless a student chooses to disclose his or her identity in the open ended comments.
ð Once the 3 week window is closed, students cannot fill out the survey.
ð This survey is only one tool for understanding. Please use other forms, handouts or discussions for collecting specific information (what about the texts? Labs? etc.) in your classes as needed. A single end of the term form only does some things and not others. CTL is happy to help.
ð The customized section of the Augsburg Form will be available in spring term.
ð You will receive your results in mid-January after grades are in--they will go directly to you, your chair and the Provost in a timely way.

If you have questions, please contact Diane Pike x 1228 pike@augsburg.edu or Scott Krajewski x 1471. krajews@augsburg.edu. We will do everything we can to help. Please keep in mind that this is the first time we are doing the entire community so your patience and help in making this work is important.
Thank you!

Subject: Portfolio Workshop

Submitter:
Theresa L Martin, Administrative Assistant, Center for Teaching and Learning

Message:
Wednesday, November 30, 4-5:30 in Marshall
Facilitated by Diane Pike

This CTL workshop is designed to help faculty in the review process become familiar with options for how to present one's case to the College. Discussion and activities will relate to how to write effective statements, what to include as evidence and why, and how to interpret student data; in addition, there will be an opportunity to form an ongoing portfolio group to work together. Recommended for all not yet tenured faculty and those considering promotion.

Please RSVP to martin@augsburg.edu or x1229

Walk Our Vision, Our Voice: Photographs and Essays from the Children of San Xavier
Lindell 301

In 1996 Professor Marubbio worked on a special photo-essay project with the O'odham children of the San Xavier reservation near Tucson, AZ. The resulting collection of photo-essays became an exhibit about the ways in which the children saw and described the world around them. Their work was exhibited at two galleries in Tucson and it traveled throughout the O'odham reservation as a touring show. Elise will be showing a selection of these works and discussing the philosophy and goals behind the project.

Refreshments are served at 3:30; the presentation begins at 4

Message:

Once again, it's that time of year when we, as a community, participate in our annual United Way/ Community Solutions Fund campaign. This year, in addition to monetary contributions, there will be several opportunities to participate with other types of gifts. If you aren't able to contribute financially, I encourage you to participate in one (or more!) of these other wonderful opportunities.

Weeks #1- 4: (November 14th through December 9th)
Book Drive
Clean off those book shelves and bring all those books you wonât read again to the information desk in Christensen Center. Books collected will be donated to various charities that support children, battered womenâs shelters, and state prison programs.

Weeks #2- #3: (November 21st through December 2nd)
Mitten, Hat and Scarf Tree
Bring in new and gently used winter accessories and decorate the tree by the information desk in Christen Center. All collected items will be donated to area clothes closets and homeless shelters.

Week #4: (December 5th through December 9th)
Toy Drive
Bring new, unwrapped toys and age appropriate gifts for teens to the information desk in Christensen Center. All collected items will be donated to Toys for Tots.

Throughout the campaign
Project Angel Tree
If your department would be interested in combining your efforts and "adopting" children as part of the Project Angel Tree program, contact Michele Kidwell (kidwell@augsburg.edu). Project Angel Tree is an organization that collects and distributes gifts to children of incarcerated inmates in area prisons.

Financial Contributions
You can complete your enrollment form for the Untied Way and/or the Community Solutions Fund at anytime and drop in the campus mail (CB 143- attention Michele Kidwell) or drop it by Christensen Center 100C.

Thanks!

Subject: Long Term Care Insurance

Submitter:
Cynthia J Greenwood, Associate Director, Human Resources

Message: Long Term Care is not just an end of life issue, as many people assume. While it does provide custodial care in a Long Term Care facility, it's far more than that--it covers the kind of rehabilitative care needed after a serious injury, or the recuperative care needed during a prolonged illness.

Augsburg College offers Long Term Care Insurance as a voluntary group benefit.

Our former carrier, Aegon/Transamerica/Life Investors is no longer selling NEW long term care policies as of March 2005. Existing policies will remain in force.

Our new carrier, Prudential, and the LTC-3 product design will be introduced. Please take this opportunity to find out more about the Group Long Term Care Insurance Program, underwritten by Prudential, which offers you and your family members a 5% Group Discount in addition to any other discounts that you may be eligible to receive.

Learn how you can help protect your assets, maintain independent living, and have a strong voice in the quality of your care. We urge you to get the facts:

*Affordable options plus group discount
*Opportunity to offer this coverage to your family members
*How Long Term Care Insurance will cover gaps in your insurance
*Whether Medicare or Medicaid will pay for your Long Term Care

An informational meeting about the Group Long Term Care Insurance will follow our final annual enrollment meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 29, 2005 from 3:00 ö 4:00 p.m. in the Century Room.

If you are interested in learning more about Long Term Care insurance, but are unable to attend the meeting, please call 1-888-738-5836 for information and a premium quote.
