Updated March 24, 2020
These guidelines for Augsburg University faculty and staff are based on the Travel Health Notice levels assigned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Travel Advisories issued by the U.S. Department of State, and recommendations for self-quarantine and self-monitoring from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
University-related international travel through the end of the spring semester must be reviewed by the Office of the Provost or the respective divisional vice president. This includes all trips for which transportation has already been purchased.
- On March 19, 2020, the U.S. Department of State issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory stating that U.S. residents should avoid all international travel due to the worldwide impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. Augsburg University faculty and staff are required to follow this guidance until further notice. Faculty and staff returning to the United States from countries under a CDC Warning Level 3 Travel Health Notice must follow current MDH recommendations and self-quarantine away from all campus buildings for 14 days.
- All countries not under a CDC Warning Level 3 are currently under a CDC Alert Level 2 Travel Health Notice. Faculty and staff returning from these countries must follow current MDH recommendations and self-monitor for fever and cough for 14 days.
- Augsburg University’s Center for Global Education and Experience (CGEE) has suspended all international programming through July 2020. For more information about international travel through CGEE, see the center’s latest update.
INTERNATIONAL PERSONAL TRAVEL
Augsburg University strongly encourages all faculty and staff to carefully consider all personal, non-university-related international travel. Please take time to carefully weigh the potential risks to your health, the health of our community, and global efforts to slow the pace of the progression of COVID-19. Additionally, travel restrictions can change rapidly with little notice and potentially impact your ability to return to campus and continue with classes or work.
DOMESTIC PERSONAL TRAVEL
As of March 24, the CDC is not recommending travel restrictions within the United States. Augsburg is monitoring these recommendations daily. We suggest that staff and faculty who travel in the United States exercise caution and monitor whether confirmed cases of COVID-19 are reported in the locations they plan to visit. (See link below.)
The University will be monitoring the situation daily. Please check this website for the latest information. We also strongly recommend that you sign up, if you have not already, for Emergency Notifications (found on Inside Augsburg) so that you can receive updates on your mobile device as they are distributed.
