  United States Academic Decathlon: In April 2019, Minnesota will host the United States Academic Decathlon national competition. More than 70 teams from across the United States, China and the United Kingdom will attend the national competition in Bloomington, MN April 25–27.

In Academic Decathlon, students participate in 10 events: economics, mathematics, science, social science, literature, art, music, essay, speech and interview. There is also a compilation event called Super Quiz that combines all areas into a quiz show style format.

USAD is seeking volunteers to serve as judges for speech or interview as well as proctors for written exams and the Super Quiz. Without volunteer judges and proctors, this event would not be possible. Please consider sharing this information with your colleagues and education students to join us at this exciting competition!

  Apply for an EAST Scholarship: The Augsburg University EAST African Student to Teacher (EAST) Scholarship Program will be accepting applications for the Spring 2019-2021 cohort! This scholarship was established to recognize highly qualified students who wish to become K-12 teachers and increase the diversity of the teacher workforce in Minnesota. EAST covers full tuition cost toward a first license to East African descent students.*

New  Breakthrough Twin Cities: Make a difference in the lives of students and address educational inequity in the Twin Cities. As a Breakthrough summer teaching fellow, you’ll teach classes of 10-12 students with training and support. Their 9-week fellowship is designed to give you the instructional and cultural tools to become an effective teacher and mentor to students in the Twin Cities who are impacted by inequitable educational circumstances. You will receive support from licensed teachers and a committed staff to be successful and learn in a high-challenge, high-support environment.   Education Majors Can Study Abroad: The Global Educators Semester at Augsburg’s study center in Cuernavaca, Mexico is designed specifically to replace a regular on-campus spring semester for education majors. Study abroad is affordable, life-changing, and gives you academic and professional skills to succeed after graduation! All Auggies get an automatic $1500 Travel Grant for the Global Educators Semester, you can use all of your financial aid for the program and there are additional scholarships available, too.

  Student teaching in Spring 2019: Students who are eligible to student teach in the spring of 2019 are required to attend ONE Information Session to learn the application process. The second of these sessions is scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 12:00-2: 00 pm in the Marshall Room

This meeting is for all programs:  Elementary, Secondary, and K-12, ESL, Special Education ABS. Being eligible means that all coursework will be completed by the end of Fall 2018. Please contact Barbara West if you have a school or work conflict for both of those dates <westb@augsburg.edu>.

  Augsburg Sesquicentennial Project: Sonja Thompson <thompso2@augsburg.edu> has been commissioned to work on a new Music-Theater piece to help us celebrate the Augsburg Sesquicentennial.  The piece will be created and developed by and for Augsburg Community members throughout the 18-19 academic year, and featured as part of the Homecoming festivities in October 2019.  Participants from the entire Augsburg community are invited to join this effort.  For more information, please contact: Sonja Thompson, 612-330-1277.
