Serving the community
On
Tuesday, Sept. 4, 400 plus Augsburg first year students spent their
first day as an Auggie volunteering at a number of different sites
across the City. After the opening Convocation and a picnic on the
Quad, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak was on hand to welcome the students
to Augsburg and Minneapolis and to send them off to their projects.
The class of 2011, along with faculty and staff, contributed more than
1350 hours of community service.
Sites and activities students worked at included: Bethany Lutheran Church, painting and cleaning; Seward Montessori School, assisting teachers; Cedar Cultural Center, cleaning; Confederation of Somali Communities of Minn., painting; Korean Garden, gardening; Northcountry Coop, cleaning and landscaping; Indian Women’s Resource Center, cleaning and sorting donations.
The day of service is coordinate by The Center for Service, Work and Learning.
