International educators meet in Minneapolis

The organization NAFSA: Association of International Educators will host its 59th Annual Conference & Expo in Minneapolis from May 27 - June 1, 2007, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The NAFSA Conference & International Education Expo will bring approximately 7,000 international educators to Minneapolis.

Augsburg College is hosting two pre-conference events on Monday, May 28. In the morning, representatives from 18 ELCA colleges and the ELCA Office for Colleges and Universities will meet to collaborate on study abroad and exchange programs. The ELCA Office of Colleges and Universities is sponsoring the event.

In the afternoon, 60 representatives from a variety of Norwegian and U.S. institutions and agencies will meet to discuss the future of Norway and U.S. cooperation in higher education exchange. The Norwegian Ambassador to the U.S., Knut Vollebaek, and the U.S. Ambassador to Norway, Benson Whitney, will return to campus to report on their recent fact finding mission on Norwegian - U.S. cooperation in higher education. The Norwegian-American Foundation is sponsoring the afternoon event.

The NAFSA Conference plenary address on Thursday, delivered by Jack Weatherford, author and Professor of Anthropology at Macalester College, will be sponsored by Augsburg College in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Center for Global Education (CGE). Following the plenary address, President Pribbenow will host an anniversary luncheon for the Office of International Programs (OIP) staff and 41 representatives from CGE partner colleges at Augsburg House.
