An Augsburg - China connection

May 24, 2007

Dr. Kwok

Professor Edmund Kwok, PhD, Executive Vice-President of United International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, China, visited Augsburg College May 23 as a guest of the Minnesota Private College Council (MPCC).  An umbrella agreement was made between the MPCC and UIC that will allow students and faculty at the 17 Minnesota private colleges opportunities to travel and study at the college in Zhuhai.  This is the first such agreement that has been made with an American college and the UIC.

William Frame, former president of Augsburg College, recently returned from the UIC campus where he spent several weeks assisting in the development of UIC's curriculum and providing leadership for the development of the new partnership.

"We have a special relationship with Augsburg due to Dr. Frame's visit," Kwok said.  "Augsburg is an important partner for us idealistically and emotionally."

In July, the UIC will send 30 of its students to Minnesota in order to visit the MPCC colleges.

"We're proud of this relationship and the wonderful mixing of Chinese education with the liberal arts," said Augsburg President Paul Pribbenow.  "We're looking forward to the way we can be your partner in this work."
