Oren Gateway Center construction on schedule

March 16 , 2007

Oren Gateway CenterThe new Oren Gateway Center is on schedule to open its doors August 1.

David Draus, Director of Facilities reports: “The building is going well. We are in the process of finishing off the top level residence hall with painting, tiling and carpeting and the link level is coming along as scheduled.”

“We are about three weeks away from finishing the work in the Lindell Library and in a month the Lindell Link will be back in operation,” Draus adds. “The retail design work of the Barnes and Noble bookstore and the restaurant is complete.” The restaurant in the new center is yet to be named. A contest to name the space has been discussed.

In addition to retail space and student housing, The Oren Gateway Center will be home to several College programs including the StepUP program; Institutional Advancement; Graduate Program offices, and the Alumni Center. A $4 million naming gift from Donald and Beverly Oren provided the funding needed for the building.

The new Center will increase the physical presence of Augsburg in the surrounding community and is part of the College’s commitment to the Riverside Corridor project, an economic development collaboration with Augsburg’s neighbors in the West Bank.
