The results of the survey conducted on the new Oren Gateway Center Eatery are in and healthy choices are what people want.

Fair trade, organic and locally grown options also top off the list of must-haves. The 470 respondents (including 317 students) expressed a desire for an affordable and inviting space that attracts the surrounding community as well.

The results of the survey, as compiled by Lars Christiansen, a professor in the Sociology and Metro-Urban Studies Program, are detailed in a report available on the O drive in the Finance and Administration public folder. The report gives an item by item analysis of the survey, points out key findings and highlights unique ideas or perspectives that were offered.  Examples include:

  • Respondents want a broad range of hours and want the eatery open on weekends.
  • Faculty suggested making the eatery an educational experience by connecting it to the mission of the college.
  • Panera Bread, Chipotle and Noodles & Co. most reflect the kind of eatery that people would like to see.
  • For lunch, the majority of respondents are willing to pay $5 – 7.
  • "As a school, you should promote student health."
  • "It would be great to move toward a no-waste cafe."
  • "This is a chance for Augsburg College to make a strong statement to the surrounding community about what we, as a community, value."
