Staff Spotlight: Dennis James Revier, Lead Day Custodian

May 4 , 2007

DennisStudent web writer Melanie Wittwer continues her Augsburg staff spotlight series with Dennis James Revier, Lead Day Custodian.

Q. How long have you been working at Augsburg?
A. I started the first week of September in 2001.

Q. Why do you like working here?
A. It's small enough where I can do my job, do my job well, and not take it home with me. I can interact with people daily. It's like a social place for me. A lot of people I think very highly of work and go to school here at Augsburg. It's fun and I feel fortunate to have found a job where I can mesh vocation and avocation. I always get sad seeing the graduating class go, but it's fun to get a bunch of fresh new faces, new stories, and new people for me to bug. I feel very young here, and I’m still learning new things. I’m interested in people who aren’t like me. People who have been places I haven’t been. I don’t want to hang around a mirror all day, and that’s why I like Augsburg.

Q. What has been your most pleasant experience here at Augsburg?
A. When I overheard a tour guide telling a group of incoming students how nice and personable the custodial staff is. I try to talk to everyone, and get to know them. That’s just the way I am. When something good happens to someone else it makes me feel good.

Q. What do you do in your free time?
A. Read. Ten years ago I didn't take the time to read, until I realized how invigorating it is. When I sit down and read it's just me and the writer, and nothing else in the world matters. I also like traveling even locally. Even just walking around a new neighborhood. We're all part of an ensemble. We've all got different instruments, but hey, we're all part of the same orchestra. I want lots of stories to tell when I'm old.

Q. What are you currently reading?
A. "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. I’m usually a sound sleeper, but it really keeps me up at night!

Q. What is your favorite food?
A. I don't know. Maybe a good homemade soup. Nothing too extravagant. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of guy.
