CSWL Spring Break: "Go Away Here"

March 16 , 2007

city of MinneapolisAuggies do not have to travel to have a great spring break this year. The Center for Service, Work and Learning is providing a free service and learning experience in Minneapolis over the course of the next week.

“We wanted to encourage people to have a wonderful experience right here in Minneapolis. Everything is free, everyone is welcome, and it’s a great way to get to know people,” says Jeanette Clark, coordinator of the event.

The series includes outings such as: the Minneapolis St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, bowling at Memory Lanes, lunch at True Thai, time at the Somali Women’s Resource Center, a musical at Mixed Blood Theater, and a trolley through downtown Minneapolis. Overall, there are 22 separate events over break.

Mary Laurel True, CSWL Associate Director, says “CSWL decided to help organize this ‘trip’ because it was something that Augsburg students approached us on and wanted to do.  They said, ‘Why go away and do service and learning projects when there is so much to do and to learn about right here in our own community?’”
