Augsburg hosts College Goal Sunday
To someone not familiar with the process, applying for financial aid can be about as intimidating a prospect as attending college.
College Goal Sunday, a national one-day event held on February 11 that provides free information and assistance to families who are filling out the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA), is setting out to change that.
Augsburg College is one of 25 sites within Minnesota that is serving as host. The goal for the day is to make filling out the FAFSA, a necessary and somewhat intimidating first step to receiving financial aid, accessible to everyone.
Augsburg is taking an extra step in the process by providing instruction in Somali and Oromo. Spanish interpretation will also be available. It is the only site in Minnesota offering the presentation in a language other than English.
“It is about being a good neighbor and reaching out to our surrounding community,” says Meghan Flores, Associate Director of Financial Aid. “It’s not about people going to college at Augsburg. It’s about people going to college, period.”
