Peter Hutchinson on campus Today
Peter Hutchinson, an independent candidate for Governor of Minnesota, will be on campus to speak to the community on "partisan politics and Minnesota's future." He will speak in the East Commons today, May 2, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and will take questions. Members of the Augsburg community are invited to bring their lunches and join in the conversation.
Peter Hutchinson was born in Faribault in 1949. In 1975, he graduated from Dartmouth College with a bachelor's degree in Government and Urban Studies and Princeton University with a master's degree in Public Affairs and Urban Planning. He served as deputy mayor under Minneapolis Mayor Al Hofstede, working on housing, neighborhood preservation, municipal finance and transportation. He was named vice president of external affairs, Dayton Hudson Corporation (now Target Corporation), where he was Vice President of External Affairs and Chairman of the Dayton Hudson Foundation.
Peter was named Commissioner of Finance by Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich in 1989. He came away from that experience determined to help governments find ways to use taxpayer dollars more effectively. In 1991, along with two partners, Peter formed The Public Strategies Group, Inc. (PSG). Peter and PSG have reformed, reinvented and redesigned government services and systems in hundreds of states, cities, counties and schools across the country and throughout the world.
