Historian and writer Larry Millett to share latest research on Twin Cities architectural history

Architectural historian and writer Larry Millett will share his latest research on Twin Cities architectural history at the 1st Annual Carl H. Chrislock Memorial History Lecture, Feb. 23, 7 p.m. in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center.

Millett, a native of Minneapolis, is a graduate of St. John’s University and has a master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He has spent much of his career as a writer, reporter and editor for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, joining the newspaper in 1972. In 1984 he won a Knight Fellowship to the University of Michigan to study architectural history and theory. When he returned to St. Paul in 1985, he became the newspaper’s first architecture critic and held that position until his retirement in 2002.

Besides publishing numerous articles, Millett has authored several books, including “Lost Twin Cities” and “Twin Cities Then and Now.”

The Carl H. Chrislock Memorial History Lecture honors the memory of Carl H. Chrislock, former professor of history at Augsburg College. C. Winston Chrislock, professor of history at the University of St. Thomas, will open the program by briefly commenting on his father’s legacy.
