Celebrating the career and dedication of Herald Johnson

June, 2006

A celebration was held Wednesday, June 29, to honor the career of Herald Johnson, director of advancement programs. After 38 years of service and dedication to Augsburg College, Johnson will retire at the end of this week.

The reception was punctuated by warm and wonderful remembrances from Johnson’s colleagues, both past and present.  Among the speakers to express their gratitude and appreciation were Meghan Flores, associate director of financial aid; Sally Daniels, director of parent and family relations; Brenda Hemmingsen, admissions assistant; Rick Thoni, director of the Rochester program;  Lois Larson, director of financial aid at Century College; Vivian Jenkins-Nelson, director of Inter-Race; Bao Thao, director of Pan-Asian student services; and Bonnie Wallace, first director of the American Indian studies program.

In attendance to bear witness to the breadth of Johnson’s vast impact on financial aid, special programs, and the entire Augsburg community, were his three sons (his daughter resides in Seattle and was unable to attend) and several grandchildren.

On behalf of President William Frame and the College, Tracy Elftmann, vice president of institutional advancement, presented Johnson with an official Augsburg chair.

Johnson’s plans for the future are open but he looks forward to spending time with family and continuing his service to Augsburg in a contracted capacity.
