Construction Update: Augsburg builds two new facilities

Sept. 4, 2006

The Oren Gateway Center walls are going up at Augsburg’s front door, and the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Complex in the new south wing of Si Melby is taking final shape.

Two new building projects are changing the face of Augsburg’s campus. The Kennedy Sports and Recreation Complex is the new three-story south wing of Si Melby that will add teaching space, expanded fitness facilities, training facilities, hospitality and meeting rooms, and a new Greco-Roman wrestling center. The completion date is January 2007.

On Riverside Ave., the Oren Gateway Center is being transformed as the enormous hole and pile of dirt gives way to the cement walls of the building that will welcome the community to campus.

The four-story building will be a mix of administrative, commercial, and residential—including a Barnes and Noble bookstore. Housed here will be the Alumni Conference Center, StepUP Program, the MBA Program, the Gage Family Art Gallery, and office for Institutional Advancement.

Watch the progress on the webcam at www.augsburg.edu/campaign/gateway/construction.html. The completion date is fall 2007.
