New Cooperative European Exchanges Announced

Minneapolis -- Two new agreements between Augsburg College and universities in Poland and Slovenia will provide opportunities for both faculty and student exchanges, according to President William Frame, who announced the cooperative arrangements with Magda Paleczny-Zapp, associate professor of Business-MIS and co-coordinator of these Cooperation Agreements.

Named to the partnerships are the Krakow University of Economics in Krakow, Poland, and the University of Ljubljana in Ljubljana, Slovenia. President Frame and Professor Paleczny-Zapp met with officials from the two institutions during the President's sabbatical visit to Europe last summer.

The President said that the new agreements will provide excellent opportunities for a wide range of experiences, including scholarly exchanges between the faculties, development of research projects of mutual interest, developing and teaching courses, and study-abroad programs for students.

Both institutions will provide visiting Augsburg professors with housing, a daily allowance for meals, research or laboratory space, and other logistical support required to carry out their teaching.

Paleczny-Zapp said she will serve as a resource for both faculty and students and has copies of catalogues and other materials from both universities available for review. Information for students also is available through the Office of International Programs, x1159. She also has a list of faculty (and their professional fields) who are interested in participating in an exchange, and she is prepared to help Augsburg faculty or department chairs make contact with their counterparts. She can be reached via e-mail at paleczny or by phone at x1761.

"I strongly encourage faculty to look seriously into these opportunities," she said, "and to introduce these institutions to their student advisees who are considering study abroad." All courses for foreign students are taught in English, she said.
