Nobel Peace Prize Festival to honor President Jimmy Carter and other Nobel laureates

Feb. 6, 2004

More than 700 students from 27 Peace Site schools and youth groups across the Twin Cities will partake in the 9th Annual Peace Prize Festival on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Si Melby Hall on the Augsburg College campus from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. This year's Festival will honor former President Jimmy Carter, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2003.

The Festival is designed to connect students in grades K-12 with Nobel laureates. At the beginning of the school year, the students choose a Nobel Peace Prize laureate to study, and then create a related exhibit or performance, which they bring to the Festival. The one-day Festival gives students the opportunity to share what they have learned with other students and Festival guests.

Some of the themes at this year's Festival will be displays/performances honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., Doctors Without Borders, Betty Williams, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and President Carter and Habitat for Humanity.

Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, the former Prime Minister of Norway and director-general of the World Health Organization will be at the Festival representing the Norwegian Nobel Institute, and KSTP's Dave Dahl will be the host.

The Festival is free and open to the public.
