The 24th Annual Augsburg College Advent Vespers

Nov. 20, 2003

Augsburg College will present its 24th annual festival worship services, Advent Vespers, on Friday, December 5 at 5 and 8 p.m., and Saturday, December 6 at 5 and 8 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis, located at 333 South Twelfth Street.
Advent Vespers celebrates the beginning of the Christmas season with traditional and contemporary hymns, anthems, and carols arranged for choral groups, soloists, and orchestra.

The theme of the program this year is "Be Still, Prepare Your Heart" and will include seasonal readings and liturgical processionals. Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis fills to capacity in one of the Midwest's largest celebrations of word and music and features more than 300 participants, including musicians, banner carriers, and liturgists in a majestic service of powerful liturgy and stirring music.
Seating envelopes are required for the Advent Vespers services and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. A freewill donation will be received at the door. For more information, call 612-330-1444 or visit http://www.augsburg.edu/vespers. Non-perishable food donations will be collected before each service for those less fortunate in our community.

Velkommen Jul to be held December 5
The Augsburg Associates and Augsburg College also invite you to the Augsburg campus Friday, Dec. 5, for Velkommen Jul, the annual Scandinavian Christmas celebration. Velkommen Jul begins in Hoversten Chapel at 10:20 a.m. with Scandinavian Christmas songs and a visit from St. Nicholas.

Following the service, the celebration will continue upstairs in Christensen Center. The Augsburg Associates, dressed in traditional Scandinavian costumes, will serve Scandinavian holiday treats and sell hand-crafted items. The celebration, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and open to the public. Call 612-330-1178 for more information.
