The Augsburg College Chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has been selected as an “Outstanding SPS Chapter for the 2002-2003 school year.” According to Mark Engebretson, professor and chair of the Augsburg physics department, this is the second time that Augsburg’s chapter has received this honor, the first coming during the 1999-2000 academic year.

According to the SPS National Office, less than 10 percent of the SPS chapters nationwide receive this honor, about one per state. “The selection is based on the depth and breadth of SPS activities of a chapter in such areas as physics research, public science outreach, physics tutoring programs, hosting and representation at physics meetings, and providing social interaction for chapter members.”
