8th Annual Peace Prize Festival, Thursday, Feb. 13

Feb. 6, 2003

The 8th Nobel Peace Prize Festival honoring Nobel Peace Prize Laureate the United Nations and its Secretary General, Kofi Annan, will be held Thursday, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Si Melby Hall on the Augsburg College Campus.
Some 700 plus students from 27 Peace Site Schools and/or youth groups across the Twin Cities partake in this event. The Festival is designed to connect students in grades K-12 who first study the works of a Nobel Peace Prize recipient or other peace themes, then create a related exhibit or performance of their subject. The one-day festival gives students the opportunity to share their project with the current Nobel Laureate, the director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute and other peacemaker role models.

Since 1996, the Nobel Peace Prize Festival has been held at Augsburg College to honor the Nobel Laureates. Some of the activities to be shared at the Festival include: a display on the history of the United Nations; traditional dances from the Ghanaian Association of Minnesota; a performance by the Nobel Symphony Orchestra – Jefferson High School; and a dance performance on the role of children in international peace efforts.

U.N. General Kofi Annan is unable to attend the Festival. He has appointed Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, permanent representative of Bangledesh to the United Nations, to attend in his place.

The Peace Prize Festival is free and open to the public.
