One Day in May: April 22, 2003
In May of 1968, following the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Augsburg students, faculty and staff opened the campus to the local community to confront the issues behind racism. Out of the spirit of the original "One Day in May," the Augsburg community has once again set aside Tuesday, April 22 to address current social justice issues and to celebrate diversity.
The day begins with Convocation at 11 a.m. and follows with several discussions scheduled throughout the day, including: "Racism in Day-to-Day Life: Defined, Identified, and Recognized," "War with Iraq," and "GLBT Human Rights Teach-In."
One Day in May concludes in the evening with speaker Dr. Tamrat Tademe, professor in Human Rights Multi-Cultural Education Department at St. Cloud State University, "Issues in War and Peace and Student Empowerment."
