Augsburg music faculty celebrate release of jazz CD

Apr. 24, 2003

The Ned Kantar Quartet featuring Jim Mitchell has released a CD titled So Nice to Come Home To. The quartet includes Augsburg's own professors, Ned Kantar and Robert Stacke, chair of the music department.

The release of the CD is the realization of a long-time dream for the quartet who has been performing great American standards for 30 years at over 5,000 engagements. "For years people have asked us for recordings of our music." says Kantar, "With this project, my idea was to create an album that portrayed some of our favorites, both vocal and instrumental, just as we would perform them live."

Kantar plays piano on each tune and Bob Stacke, a friend and colleague of Kantar's for the past 45 years, contributes with drums and congas on the instrumental selections. There are seven selections featuring famed twin cities vocalist, Jim Mitchell.

The CD was recorded over the course of several days this past summer and has enjoyed a warm reception since its release in November. The CDs are being sold at local Twin Cities' Cheapo Records stores or can be purchased online through independent music source, CD Baby at www.cdbaby.com/kantar.
