21st Annual Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics March 13-14

The 21st Annual Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics will be held March 13-14 at Augsburg College. The Batalden Seminar is part of the 2002-2003 Augsburg Convocation Series, "Truth, Reconciliation and Forgiveness."

Guess speaker is Curtiss Paul DeYoung, associate professor of reconciliation studies at Bethel College in St. Paul. He is also special assistant to the president for reconciliation and community partnerships.

A public lecture, "The Cost of Reconciliation is Truth and Forgiveness" will be held Thursday, March 13, 7 p.m. The seminar continues Friday, March 14, 10 a.m. with a convocation, "The Cross: A Symbol of Reconciliation and Racism," followed by a panel discussion. All events will be held in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center, 22nd and Riverside Aves. The seminars are free and open to the public.

DeYoung is a prolific author and speaker, who was previously director of City Gate Project. For several years, he was president and CEO of the Twin Cities Urban Reconciliation Network (TURN). He is known throughout the world for his scholarship on reconciliation and his success in bringing people together across racial and ethnic divides. DeYoung is the author of four books that address reconciliation, including "Beyond Rhetoric: Reconciliation as a Way of Life." He is also an ordained minister in the Church of God.
