Dr. Maria Zuber guest speaker for 2002 Sverdrup Visiting Scientist Program at Augsburg College

Dr. Marie Zuber, E.A. Griswold professor of Geophysics and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the guest speaker for the 2002 Sverdrup Visiting Scientist Program at Augsburg College, April 8-9.

Griswold's lecture, "Expedition to an Asteroid: The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) Mission," will be Monday, April 8, 8 p.m. in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center, Riverside and 22nd Aves.

Dr. Marie Zuber is the team leader of the gravity experiment on the Mars 2005 Reconnaissance Orbiter, deputy principal investigator of the laser altimeter on the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft, team leader of the laser ranging investigation on the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous mission, a member of the geophysics team of the Clementine mission to the Moon, leader of the geophysics investigation of the MESSENGER mission to Mercury, and a co-investigator on the Dawn mission to asteroids Vesta and Ceres.

She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and master's and Ph.D. degrees from Brown University. She is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union and a recipient of the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal.
