Jews and Christians in Dialogue Augsburg Convocation Series continues

The 2002-2003 Augsburg Convocation Series, "Truth, Reconciliation, and Forgiveness" continues on Monday, Feb. 10 with the topic "Jews and Christians in Dialogue." The Convocation will begin at 10 a.m. in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center, Augsburg College campus.

Speakers are Victoria Barnett, writer and scholar on Protestant churches during the Holocaust; and Barry D. Cytron, associate professor of Theology and Jay Phillips professor in Jewish Studies at the Center for Jewish-Christian Learning, St. John's University/ University of St. Thomas.

Victoria Barnett is a writer and scholar whose work examines the Protestant churches during the Holocaust. She is the author of "For the Soul of the People: Protestant Protest Against Hitler and Bystanders: Conscience and Complicity in the Holocaust." Barnett is also a consultant to the Department of Church Relations, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, D.C.

Rabbi Barry D. Cytron served as a congregational rabbi at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in Des Moines, Iowa, and at Adath Jeshurun Congregation in Minneapolis until 1996. He received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Columbia University, was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and earned a Ph.D. from Iowa State University. Cytron serves on the National Council of Synagogues and participate in consultations with the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. In the Twin Cities area, he is active on several committees dealing with issues of bio-ethics. Books he has authored include "When Life is in the Balance: Life and Death Decisions in Light of the Jewish Tradition and Who Renews Creation."
