Jun. 06, 2001

Lutheran Summer Music – 2001 at Augsburg College, Minneapolis, Minn. is proud to announce three highly acclaimed performers for its Guest Artist Series. The Augsburg Woodwind Quintet and the Ancia Saxophone Quartet will perform on July 1 in Foss Center at Augsburg College. The 15-year-old German prodigy Felix Hell will give an organ recital at Luther Seminary in the Olson Campus Center on July 8.

Both events begin at 8 p.m. The Augsburg Woodwind Quintet is comprised of outstanding Twin Cities artists who teach at Augsburg College. The quintet has played together since 1996 and they have been featured as guest soloists with the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra and at the Peace Prize Forum hosted by Augsburg College in 1999. The group's members are Trudi Anderson, flute; Merilee Klemp, oboe; Jennifer Gerth, clarinet; Caroline Lemen, French Horn; and Norbert Nielubowski, bassoon.

Sharing the spotlight on July 1 is the Ancia Saxophone Quartet. Ancia was founded in 1990 as an ensemble dedicated to the creation and performance of new works as well as traditional saxophone quartet repertoire. The quartet has performed concerts and presented educational workshops in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Members of the quartet are: Kurt Claussen, soprano; Joan Hutton, alto; Matthew Sintchak, tenor; and Angela Wyatt, baritone.

The third Guest artist, Felix Hell, was born in 1985 in Frankenthal/Pfalz, Germany. He began taking piano lesson at the age of seven. Just eight months after his first piano lesson, he began playing the organ, and two months later, he gave his first performance. At the age of 15, he is the winner of eight first prize awards. He has given over 100 recitals in Germany, the United States, Russia, Spain, and France. He is currently a student at the Curtis Institute for Music in Philadelphia. LSM, the national Lutheran high school music camp, is an intensive four-week music program. LSM 2001 will be on the campus of Augsburg College.
