Minneapolis businessman donates $200,000 to Youth and Family Institute of Augsburg College

Augsburg College, in conjunction with the Richard R. Green Institute, is presenting the sculpture "Negative Community Passage-2000" by Twin Cities artist, Frank J. Brown. This art exhibition is in celebration of Black History Month.
The sculpture will be on display in the Alumni Gallery in Christensen Center, 720 22nd Ave. S. through February 23. The gallery is free and open to the public from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 23, 5-8 p.m. the artist will be hosting a closing reception in the gallery.Frank J. Brown completed the display, Negative Community Passage-2000, in August of 2000. "My hope is that this sculpture will create more dialog among African Americans to help dispel the myths and stereotypes that we attribute to ourselves and that others attribute to African Americans. I hope these discussions will lead us to take personal responsibility to eliminate negative actions such as fatherless children, prostitution, physical assaults, and drug abuse." --Frank J. Brown
For 15 years, Brown has created images from clay, bronze, and stone. His sculptures speak to the social concerns of the African American community. The artist hopes that his images will influence future generations not to repeat the negative biases of the past. He hopes that the nation will no longer be divided by race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or physical disability. Coverage is welcome during the event and at the closing reception.
