Kelly Chapman, first recipient of Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship at Augsburg College, to attend celebration luncheon at Governor's mansion

Sept. 15, 2000

Augsburg College freshman Kelly Chapman, daughter of Theresa Chapman of Mahtomedi, and the first recipient of the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship at Augsburg College, will attend a celebration luncheon at the Governor's mansion in St. Paul, on Sept. 26, along with the other 14 scholarship winners. The recipients from each of the 15 Minnesota private colleges and universities will receive a $5,000 scholarship for the full academic year, which can be renewed annually.

The Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship is awarded to students who are the first in their families to attend a college or university. This is the first time that Coca-Cola has funded this program in Minnesota.

Chapman, a graduate of Mahtomedi High School, said she chose Augsburg College because, after a campus tour, it "seemed like a real community," and she had a "good impression of the college." Chapman is majoring in pre-med and she plans to play basketball and intramural volleyball. She would also like to get involved in the Link program, which is a student community service organization at Augsburg.

Also attending the luncheon, which is being hosted by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Minnesota Private College Fund, will be representatives of the private colleges and universities and members of the regents from each of the institutions.
