1998 Christensen Symposium at Augsburg to explore paradox of "The Faithful Skeptic"

Jul. 10 1998

Augsburg College's 1998 Christensen Symposium (Sept. 28-29) will examine "how faith can challenge the skepticism of a secular world" and "how skeptics can maintain faith" in a series of discussions that are free and open to the public.

The symposium will begin with a lecture--"We are in this Together"--at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 by Dr. Dick Hardel, executive director of the Youth and Family Institute of Augsburg College. Hardel's presentation will address how parents' modeling of their Christian faith and a regular faith/life dialogue are two of the most important dynamics of faith formation. Hardel will give his speech on campus in Hoversten Chapel, located in the Foss Center at the corner of 22nd and Riverside Avenues South.

Also free and open to the public is an 11 a.m. convocation on Sept. 29 that will feature Dr. Donald Juel, a professor of New Testament theology at Princeton Theological Seminary. Juel will speak on "the importance of a good suspicion: some reflections on the vocation of the thoughtful Christian."

The general public is also welcome to make reservations to attend a luncheon ($5 cost) at 12:15 p.m. on Sept. 29 that will feature a panel discussion with Juel. The luncheon will be in the East Commons of the Christensen Center, located at 720 22nd Ave. S. To make reservations, call 330-1024.

Street parking is available for free, and there is a pay parking ramp across Riverside Avenue from the Foss Center.
