Augsburg College launches Legacy Scholarship Program

Apr. 22 1998

Augsburg College president William V. Frame announced that the College has established a new "Legacy Scholarship Program" that will offer tuition benefits to certain relatives of Augsburg graduates, families with more than one child enrolled at Augsburg and families of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) pastors.

Beginning in the fall of 1998, the following awards will be available at Augsburg:

Students who are spouses, children or grandchildren of Augsburg graduates will be awarded a minimum scholarship of $4,000 per year or a $1,000 addition to the Augsburg Regents' award for which they qualify, whichever is greater.

A tuition credit of $1,000 per year will be awarded to current students who have a sibling who enrolls at Augsburg during or after fall semester 1998. The less-advanced sibling will be awarded a minimum Augsburg grant of $4,000 per year or a $1,000 addition to the Augsburg Regents' award for which they qualify, whichever is greater.

Students who are spouses or children of current ELCA pastors will be awarded a minimum scholarship of $4,000 per year or a $1,000 addition to the Augsburg Regents' award for which they qualify, whichever is greater.

To receive a Legacy Scholarship, students must be eligible for admission to Augsburg and must meet several criteria, including enrollment as a full-time day school student and a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average. The Legacy Scholarship will be awarded in lieu of any other merit scholarship, but leadership awards may be added to this award as may third party scholarships. Students must identify themselves as eligible for the Legacy Scholarship at the time of admission, and no retroactive scholarships will be awarded.
