Youth and Family Ministry Leadership Conference in August

Highlights 1999 Augsburg Youth and Family Institute training opportunities

The Youth and Family Institute of Augsburg College has opened registration for its 1999 training and educational conferences. Highlighting the 1999 educational options is the second annual Youth and Family Ministry Leadership Conference, which will be held from Aug. 2-6 on the Augsburg campus.

The ecumenical and international conference, titled "Nurturing Faith Among the Generations: An International and Ecumenical Conference on Faith Formation," will feature key presenters affiliated with the following six different faith traditions: Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; Lutheran Church Missouri Synod; Roman Catholic; Church of Norway; Presbyterian; and Methodist.

The objective of the conference is to explore the gifts, resources, uniqueness and common ground that bring generations of people together for a life of faith, hope and love through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Participants will learn about and discuss how the characteristics of each generation hold great potential for ministry and faith formation that is both generationally specific as well as multigenerational.

Cost of registration is $440 for individuals and $400 each for two or more from the same staff. This fee includes a daily continental breakfast and lunch meal and one evening banquet meal. On-campus housing for five nights is available at a total cost of $110.

ADDITIONAL COURSES OFFERED INCLUDE "CHURCH AND CULTURE IN CONTEXT" AND "NORWAY PILGRIMAGE 1999" --

-May 27-June 12, 1999 -- "Church and Culture in Context" - Cost -- $2,520 - $2,835

The Youth and Family Institute of Augsburg College and the Norwegian Teachers Academy (NLA), a Christian college in Bergen, are offering a two-week course designed for students to study Norwegian culture and the contemporary religious situation in Norway and the United States. Emphasis will be on the experiences of the church in a post-Christendom era.

Class presentations (in English) will be on board the small cruise ship Elieser docked in Norway's Bergen Harbor. The course will include the opportunity for cultural excursions and visits to historical sites.

The class is geared for American and Norwegian clergy, Christian education specialists, youth and family ministers, and others interested in looking at congregational life in Norway and the United States and while also studying Norwegian culture and history. Undergraduate credit is available for college students and continuing education credit is also available.

- June 12-June 24, 1999 -- "Norway Pilgrimage 1999" - Cost $2,985

The Youth and Family Institute of Augsburg College is also sponsoring this pilgrimage, which will include visits to the following sites in Norway: Oslo; Trondheim; Bergen; Lillehammer; breathtaking fjords, mountains, valleys and glaciers; historic St. Olaf battle ground and Holy Pilgrim Path; stave churches; Viking museums; picturesque hotels and restaurants; shopping districts.

The pilgrimage is unique in that participants will have the opportunity to connect with church leadership from the Church of Norway while implementing resources and models from the Youth and Family Institute.
