Augsburg to Dedicate Lindell Family Library & Information Technology Center

Oct. 22, 1997

Augsburg College will dedicate its new $15 million Lindell Family Library & Information Technology Center with a public ceremony on Nov. 2.

The ceremony will start at 4 p.m. in Hoversten Chapel, located at 625-22nd Ave. S., and conclude with a formal dedication in front of the new building at 5:30 p.m. A reception in the library will immediately follow the ceremony.

Earlier in the day (from 12-3:45 p.m.), the neighborhood community is invited to participate in tours, which will include demonstrations, hands-on events and videos.

The four-level, 73,000-square foot facility officially opened Sept. 1 after 14 months of construction. Among its features are a state-of-the-art multimedia computer development lab and a multimedia classroom equipped with state-of-the-art projection, satellite downlink and uplink capability and network access.

The new library and information technology center was named after donor James G. Lindell, whose major gift brought fundraising for the $15 million facility near completion. Eight members of Lindell's family have attended Augsburg.

Besides Augsburg students, faculty and staff, other primary users of the new building are students from the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC)--which includes St. Thomas, Macalester, St. Catherine and Hamline-- and students from Bethel College, Concordia-St. Paul and the University of Minnesota. It is also accessible to scholars, researchers and Cedar-Riverside neighborhood and community users.
