First and Second Year Faculty

New Faculty Orientation

The annual new faculty and staff orientation is held on Tuesday and Wednesday during the last week of August; an evening session for adjuncts who cannot attend the two-day orientation is held on Monday evening. All new full-time or part-time faculty who began after the most recent orientation are expected to attend. The first day brings faculty and staff together to examine Augsburg’s history and its current strategy, explore the demographics of our student body and how we serve them, and clarify expectations and support for success. As part of the orientation, you will learn more about how Augsburg seeks to create an inclusive campus and how you can contribute.

The second day focuses on teaching. You will engage in activities to share your own expertise, learn about critical resources to support your teaching, explore how to develop an inclusive learning community, examine the range of student support services you can access to help your students, and develop a plan to be ready for the first day of class. In addition to what you will learn, the orientation provides an excellent opportunity for you to develop relationships with faculty and staff colleagues outside your department.

Thursday, November 1 – We will ask you to “observe” a faculty member in your department and then come together to discuss Augsburg’s culture and commitment to best practices in the classroom.

Thursday, November 15 - Finally, we will pair up and attempt to learn from each other with classroom observations. This final session will provide us a follow up opportunity for conversation.
