These programs, co-sponsored with Human Resources and ACTC, are designed to address leadership development needs for all campus leaders. To achieve Augsburg’s mission, it is critical that we have effective leadership at all levels, since research consistently shows that work satisfaction, performance, and retention are most strongly affected by the quality of the relationship between employees and their direct managers. Our combined programming includes the New Chair Leadership Seminar (ACTC), and Leadership Conversations (CTL). Related campus activities include programs offered by the Strommen Center for Meaningful Work and the Center for Leadership Studies.
New Chair Leadership Seminar
Augsburg collaborates with ACTC to support development of new chairs and directors. ACTC’s third annual New Chair Leadership Seminar was held August 20-22, 2013, and included department chairs, division chairs, and program directors from across the Twin Cities metro region.
More than a dean, more than a provost, you as chair make the difference in your department’s culture and legacy. ACTC’s New Chair Leadership Seminar focuses on the professional development you need in your (new) role and connects you with a cohort of other chairs seeking the same conversations. For more information on the seminar see http://actcnewchairleadership.org/
CTL sponsors leadership circles to explore leadership issues through readings, guest speakers, and conversations. These are open to both academic and staff leaders who want to learn more about being an effective leader.
In 2012-13, Joan Kunz and Merilee Klemp led a series of conversations about Don Chu’s book The Department Chair Primer: Leading and Managing Academic Departments. Paul Terrio facilitated a dialogue on Julie Clow’s The Work Revolution: Freedom and Excellence for All.
If you have a book you’d like to discuss with others and are willing to facilitate a group, please contact email@example.com
