Tutor for Basic English and Math Skills to Women

Health Commons is looking for someone to tutor East African women in our community. There is a need to improve basic English and math skills for women who are applying to graduate programs to continue their nursing education. For these women, their English skills are already good, they just need a little more work in order to pass the exam by a margin of a few points. The tutor does not need to be bilingual. If interested, please send an email to clarkk@augsburg.edu or barre@augsburg.edu. Thank you so much!

Sustainability in Nicaragua Teaching Manual

Congratulations to John Zobitz for his published work, "International Sustainability Projects for Calculus", in collaboration with CGEE Central America Co-Director, Mark Lester and Tracy Bibelnieks (former Augsburg faculty currently at UMN Duluth).

In 2012, John, Tracy, and an Augsburg math class traveled to a community called GARBO in Peñas Blancas, Jinotega, Nicaragua, set up via the Center for Global Education and Experience's contacts in the region. From the Engaging Mathematics website, "This manual investigates multi-faceted aspects of sustainability of a rural farming cooperative in Central America through analysis of resource allocation, carbon footprints, and exploration of the long-term sustainability for ecotourism development."
