Public Art Invitational for Artists/Design Teams

We're excited to share a new art and design opportunity with Augsburg alumni, staff, and faculty. A team comprised of faculty, alumni, staff, and art consultants are working to bring beauty and inspiration into the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion, and you're invited to participate.

Augsburg has engaged Forecast Public Art to facilitate the commissioning of art works for the new Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion. You are invited to submit qualifications to be considered for this opportunity.

Read the Art & Identity Request for Qualifications (RFQ) here: http://web.augsburg.edu/ia/Hagfors_RFQ_6_15.pdf. The deadline for RFQ submission is July 19, 2016; all required materials must be received by 4 p.m. CDT. The Augsburg Art and Identity Committee will review applications and select up to 20 finalists to participate in a concept development phase.

The Art and Identity Initiative's charge is to bring expression to the guiding principles for the new Center and Augsburg's aspirations for a 21st century urban campus. Through art and identity, the Center's key interior elements and exterior spaces will illustrate a sense of beauty, harmony with place and a commitment to hospitality. As a way to express the transformative impact of the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion, Augsburg will commission numerous works of art. Each piece will be commissioned through philanthropic sponsorship and displayed in various locations within this new signature academic building.

We look forward to seeing your work!

AchieveMpls Graduation Coaches Needed

AchieveMpls is seeking volunteers to serve as Graduation Coaches, providing one-on-one mentoring for high school freshman and seniors as they navigate the path to college and careers.

Graduation Coaches volunteer for 3-4 hours per month, meeting with their students during the school day at a Minneapolis public high school and following up over email. Training and curriculum are provided and a 9-month academic year commitment is required.

The application deadline is June 30. For more information about the program and to apply online to be a Graduation Coach, go to http://www.achievempls.org/GraduationCoaches.

I've volunteered at Patrick Henry High School on Minneapolis' north side for two years, and I'd love to tell you more about the Graduation Coaches program if you have questions. I've found it to be a neat way to use my community service hours. It also would be a chance for third- or fourth-year students to add meaningful volunteer experience to their resumes. Send questions to: swansonl@augsburg.edu.

Earn $5 By Being in a Romantic Relationship

Hello Fellow Auggies!

My name is Anabel Chavez, a Social Psychology major and McNair Scholar at Augsburg College. I am conducting research this summer, and I would like to invite you to participate in my study!

This study measures how autobiographical memories can affect satisfaction in a romantic relationship. Therefore, the study will ask for participants to disclose two personal relationship-defining memories. Participants are required to be at least 18 years of age and are currently involved in a romantic (but not marital) relationship. Participants will also need to have been in their current romantic relationship for at least 6 months (or longer). Anyone from the Augsburg community is able to participate, this includes staff, faculty, students and alumni.

The study contains two sessions, one which requires you to complete an online survey on your own time or at home (3-5 minutes), and the second session requires you to come to campus to take a more extensive survey (20-30 minutes). This part may also be arranged to be taken at home or on your own time. Participants will also receive a $5 cash compensation for their participation.

For any further questions, concerns, or to schedule an appointment, please send me an email at chavez@augsburg.edu

Thank you!

Two Rooms Available for Rent

There are two rooms available at the end of the July in a three-bedroom apartment between Downtown and Uptown; great location. I am looking for two people to move in, but it does not matter if the two people know each other--so if you're interested let me know and then I just have one more room to fill in later. Two available rooms; so you get one if it is just you.

A little about me: I am a 24-year-old male who will start my first year of elementary teaching in Minneapolis. One thing I will ask is that we get coffee or just meet somewhere and have a conversation to see if it would be a good fit. Just to be up front, the landlord does end up doing a background check. I am chill and will keep to myself, and I just ask that you are clean when it comes to the common area and are not constantly too loud but I feel like am reasonable. The two available rooms will be $400 each. It is a basement unit, but there is still light that comes in. I don't know how long I will have my Augsburg email since I am done there, but you can send me an email at: michealetesema123@gmail.com if you are interested.
