Lot J and Lot K Closure This Saturday

Lots J and K will be closed on Saturday, December 5th from 5:00am to 9:00pm for an event.

Spring Semester Parking Permit Sale on Monday

Hello Augsburg Community,

Please read the following important information regarding parking permit sales for spring semester:

Spring semester surface lot parking permit sales will open to all students, faculty, and staff on Monday, December 7 at 9:00am. Luther and Oren Underground permits will be on sale on Monday morning to all students, and any remaining Luther and Oren Underground permits will be available to faculty and staff on Wednesday, December 9 at 9:00am.

Permits can be purchased online via Inside Augsburg under the "Parking Services" link. Permits will NOT be mailed out, and must be picked up from the Department of Public Safety, located in the Urness/Mortensen hall lobby. Please allow 3 business days after payment to process your permit before pick up. Other detailed information regarding permit pricing, FTE or student status issues, or general questions please visit our website: http://www.augsburg.edu/dps/parking/

In order to ensure that the Augsburg community has a place to park on campus, we enforce parking policies 24/7. You must have a valid permit to park on campus.

Please note that if you are a Fall-only permit holder your permit will expire on January 10th, 2016. Spring permits will be valid starting on January 11th. If you had purchased a "Year" permit, you need not purchase a Spring permit. Check your permit for the printed valid dates.

Teaching and Learning

Check Out the Swivl for Convenient Observation

The Swivl, along with a recording device such as the iPad, can be used for conducting a teaching observation of yourself, recording a course session for a colleague to review at a later time, recording flipped classroom instruction, or for practicing a presentation before a conference.

The new Swivl and iPad mini purchased by CTL and the E-Learning Team are now on reserve at the circulation desk. All faculty and staff are welcome to use them for a maximum period of 72 hours. Step-by-step instructions are included in the Swivl case and in the CTL public ORGS folder.

SPA 211 in the Spring

The Languages and Cross-Cultural Studies Dept. is looking for students interested in taking SPA 211 in the spring semester. Normally this course is only taught in the fall, but with enough student interest, could be offered this coming spring. The class would meet MWF from 1:50-3:00 p.m.

Hagfors Center Office Models

Life-size models of two configurations for the offices in the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion have been constructed on the second level of Lindell Library, near the link to Sverdrup Hall. The models are indicative of the size and space of the new offices, although the final fabrics and finishes may differ.

The model offices will be up through the winter board meeting at the end of January. If you have questions or comments about the office plans, please send them to the hagforscenter@augsburg.edu. The Hagfors Center project team will review all submissions sent to that email address.

Last Wellness Program for 2015

Community Gathering & Guided Meditation Sessions
Back by popular demand, Augsburg Total Wellness is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a community gathering featuring an opportunity to participate in a guided meditation session to help us relax and re-energize. Jill Englund will be leading four guided mediation sessions. Additionally there will be Christmas themed refreshments. We hope you are able to stop over and refuel with a stress break. Additionally, Augsburg will contribute $50.00 to your HSA for eligible participants. Those not eligible for an HSA contribution will be entered into a prize drawing.

The sessions will begin with a short introduction to the science of meditation and how it can act as an antidote to the destructive effects of stress, including the added stressors that can accompany the joys of the holiday season.

Sessions guide participants through activities that are simple and easy, leading them to find their own corner of peace and wellbeing. No experience necessary but registration is required and space is limited.

Get Paid To Do An Internship - Apply Today

Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?

You may be able to do just that because of a grant recently awarded to Augsburg College. Augsburg has recently been awarded a Great Lakes Career Ready Grant. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.

To be eligible:

* Students must be in good academic standing (2.5+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Internships will take place Spring 2016, Summer 2016 or Fall 2016

Act now! Priority consideration is given to students who complete the short Augsburg application, so we recommend you complete it soon.

Engman Prize - Submit on Moodle Today

The John Engman Writing Prize, a literary competition sponsored by Murphy Square and the Augsburg English Department, is awarded each year to promising writers.

This year's submission deadline is Friday, December 4 (TODAY). Judges of the competition will select winners in each of the categories of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction.

To enter writers must submit the following:
Short Fiction - One complete short story of not more than 15 pages.
Creative Non-fiction - One complete piece not longer than 15 pages.
Poetry - At least three poems.

All writers must be enrolled at Augsburg College and may enter each of the three categories as often as they wish, but they may only win in one.

Please submit your entries via Moodle. Students should go to Moodle Community > Departments > English > Engman Creative Writing Prize to view the site.

Graduate Nursing Program Accreditation Visit

The Department of Nursing at Augsburg College will host an accreditation site visit of the Master's degree program in nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program on February 8-10, 2016.

Program constituents are welcome to submit comments concerning the program's qualification for accreditation status.

Love Your Melon Tabling

Hello Auggies!

Tis' the season of giving! The Augsburg Love Your Melon Crew will be selling hats next week on Monday the 7th, Tuesday the 8th and Thursday the 10th in the Christensen Lobby from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

For every hat sold, Love Your Melon donates a hat to a child battling cancer. This holiday season we are apart of a "Million Dollar Mission" to help raise money for organizations that go towards cancer research. Help us reach this goal and help children across the US by either stopping by the table next week or visit Loveyourmelon.com and buying a hat from the Augsburg Crew. Together we can make an impact.

On Monday, December 7, 3:30-5:30 p.m. friends, faculty, staff and students will gather in the Education Suite (Sverdrup 3) to honor Vicki Olson's invaluable work at the College. (Vicki retires in late December). Please join the department in honoring her longstanding leadership of both graduate and undergraduate programs, committed work for the department, the college and the community and her faithful stewardship and teaching of the next generation of K-12 teachers. A short honoring presentation will begin at 4:00 in the Education Suite.

Advent Vespers

ADVENT VESPERS TICKETS

Please Note: Beginning at NOON on Friday, December 4, Advent Vespers tickets will not be available at Augsburg College, and we will no longer accept Advent Vespers reservations online.

All remaining tickets will be transferred to the WILL CALL table located at Central Lutheran Church in the South Commons Lobby. Tickets will be available for pick up beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

ALL services are now full, however, a limited number of RUSH SEATING tickets will be available 10 minutes prior to the start of the Prelude.

Seward Winter Frolic and Art Crawl This Weekend

The Seward Winter Frolic and Art Crawl will be held this Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 along East Franklin Avenue. The event is hosted by the Seward Civic and Commerce Association and the Seward Neighborhood Group. It is a terrific opportunity to support Seward's vibrant small businesses and local artists. All day long businesses will be offering specials and local artists will be will be displaying and selling their work at several venues. At 5:00 p.m. on Saturday there will be a gathering in Triangle Park (26th Ave. and E. Franklin Avenue) to light up the park and to celebrate the warm community spirit of the Seward Neighborhood.
