Keeping Track of Auggies

Alumni & Staff Present Together on DACA students

This week, Dulce Monterrubio, Director of Latin@ Student Services, Andrea Dvorak, Assistant Director for Off Campus Studies in the Center for Global Education and Experience, and Augsburg alum Zitlali Chavez Ayala '14 will co-present a session entitled " Breaking Barriers: Best Practices Working with Undocumented and DACA-mented Students" at the NAFSA Region IV Conference: Planting Seeds, Sharing the Harvest in Des Moines, Iowa. Their session will offer up-to-date information on federal and state regulations, address ongoing barriers to accessing higher education, and provide guidance in the services and support Study Abroad/Away offices should provide for undocumented and DACA-mented students.

Dulce and Andrea presented a similar session at the Annual Diversity Abroad Conference in New Orleans, LA earlier this year - but they are very excited to share the session this time with Ms Chavez Ayala, since they know her personal story will give deeper meaning to the session content.

Augsburg is the leader among MN private colleges in the number of DACA and undocumented students admitted.

Kudos to Dulce, Andrea and Zitlali for their work bringing forward Augsburg's expertise on this important issue.
