Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Facilities Work Order Request

The facilities online work order system should be used for all work order requests, except emergencies. Emergencies include fire, water flooding, sparking, electrical outages, a hazardous situation on campus (icy steps, etc.). Call DPS at x1717 (612-330-1717) for these emergencies. For ALL OTHER requests, please use the online system. These may include a light bulb out in the ceiling of your office, a broken sign on campus, spill on your carpet, broken window blind, etc. Report things in your work area, and anything you see while you are out and about on campus. We can all help keep the campus looking its best by reporting things we see.

-Log in to Inside Augsburg
-Click Administrative Tasks
-Click Facilities Request
-Click Submit a Request
- Select which campus, Minneapolis or Rochester
- Select the building
- Select the repair center: Custodial is anything related to cleaning or rest room supplies. Facilities is anything related to fixing buildings, building systems, or grounds.
-Area: Many areas on campus have rooms labeled with room numbers; use these to locate the repair center, if at all possible. Otherwise, select the area by the description.
-Request: please be as specific as you can. Your request may be one that can be handled by a facilities technician that works in the evening or is available when you are not, so be specific enough that your request can be completed without your in-person description.

You request will be reviewed by a facilities employee and assigned to a technician. Our goal is to complete your request within 5 work days. There are a few situations that may cause us to miss this goal: ordering parts, a higher than normal number of emergencies to take care of, etc. Thanks for your cooperation.

Treadmill & Skate Test Participants Needed

Good Morning!

I am looking for males and female between the ages of 20-55 that are "competent" skaters. My URGO summer research involves two separate tests, one on the treadmill following the bruce protocol method, and the other (on a separate day) is a skate test; where I will ask you to complete 10 full ice figure 8 loops at a leisurely pace. This means you must be able to skate forward as well as turn. The treadmill test takes roughly 20-30 minutes with the set up, and the skate test takes about 5 minutes. I am here on campus each day 8-5 and am looking to get 30-50 people. Please do not be shy, email me if you have any questions or would like to sign up!
My email is: cripps@augsburg.edu

IMPORTANT NOTE: skate test times will be very open until the week of June 22nd, I am trying to have all tests done before that week if possible

Thank you!

Title: INVESTIGATING THE INFLUENCE OF PERSONALITY TRAITS ON EXERCISE REGIMENS

Dear fellow Auggie,
My name is Ali Kanan and I am an undergraduate student from the Psychology department at Augsburg College. I am writing to invite you to participate in my summer research project. The purpose of this study is to examine how motivational traits influence how persistent one is in an exercise session. Through this process we hope to gain knowledge and a better understanding on how to help people to find the motivation to continue or begin exercising for their own health benefits.

The study involves filling out a series of questionnaires relating to the topics of motivation, personality, and exercise. Following the questionnaires, you will be asked to perform three physical tasks (roughly 5 minutes each). The experiment will take approximately 30 minutes to complete, and as compensation you will receive five dollars for participating in the study. All information concerning identity of participant, including the collected data, will remain anonymous and confidential.

In order to be eligible as a participant of this study you must: 1) Be between the ages of 18-65, and is/has participated in some form of physical activity, 2) Pass a health screening questionnaire prior to the experiment, 3) NOT exercise before the experiment on the day of testing.
If you meet the above criterion, and decide you want to participate, or would like more information about participating, contact: Ali Kanan at 763-614-4852 (kanan@augsburg.edu), or Dr. Ben Denkinger at 612-330-1172 (denkinge@augsburg.edu).

**Sign up using the link below, OR, shoot me and email/call if you would like me to set it up for you! Thanks!

Keeping Track of Auggies

Kuramoto '15 Named Fulbright ETA to South Korea!

Recent graduate and mathematics major, Taylor Kuramoto, has been selected to serve as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in South Korea for the '15-'16 academic year! Fulbright receives thousands of applications each year, and Taylor was selected by both U.S. and South Korean committees. Taylor will be working with elementary or secondary students and will have the opportunity to live with a South Korean family in a home-stay. In her time outside of the classroom, Taylor plans to create English talking circles like those she participated in at the local Jane Addams School for Democracy as a Bonner Leader and hopes to use her experience as an Auggie soccer player to connect with students and peers through the sport.

Taylor is a natural fit for the Fulbright ETA program having spent much of her time here at Augsburg teaching and engaging youth in nearby communities. Through the Bonner Leaders Program, she has tutored K-8 students at Kaleidoscope Place, helped immigrants study for the U.S. citizenship test at Jane Addams School for Democracy, and worked with St. Paul's ELCA youth urban gardening program. Taylor has actively sought out additional opportunities to serve others as an Augsburg student and athlete, volunteering at youth soccer camps, going on two Campus Ministry service trips, and helping with Campus Kitchen meals.

Taylor has a passion for learning and a desire to use that knowledge to effect change. As a mathematician, she spent last summer at the National Institute of Math and Bio Synthesis at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville conducting research on the transmission of bovine respiratory disease among cattle and this summer was accepted to the University of Minnesota's Summer Institute in Biostatistics (although she will already be overseas for her Fulbright ETA at the time of SIBS). She is also a Sabo Scholar and served as an URGO statistics research assistant on Professor Nancy Rodenberg's social work research on cultural competence education. We are looking forward to hearing all that Taylor is able to learn and experience during her time in South Korea.

If you are an upcoming senior, recent graduate, or Augsburg alum and would like to learn more about the Fulbright Program, please contact URGO at urgo@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1446 to set up an appointment. URGO works with individuals throughout the summer to explore Fulbright's offerings, select a destination country, and prepare a competitive application.
