Nancy Rodenborg - Paper on MSW Dialogue

Congratulations to Nancy Rodenborg, Associate Professor of Social Work, on her accepted publication in the Journal for Social Work Education: An evaluation of intergroup dialogue pedagogy: Addressing segregation and developing cultural competency. Pre and post course survey data were collected from three cohorts of Augsburg's MSW students between 2008-2011; these students were enrolled in a required cultural competence course in which Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) is the key pedagogy. Dr. Rodenborg worked with Dr. Adrienne Dessel, Program on Intergroup Relations, U of Michigan, who led data analyses and is first author. This is the first of three planned publications that will report on the three-year study.

Together We Made a Difference - Thank You

THANK YOU to the team of AMAZING AUGGIES that came together to pack meals for the Feed My Starving Children organization. I am so proud of what we were able to accomplish. Together we packed 25,704 meals in just an hour and a half! It was a fantastic experience with an organization that is truly making a difference all around the world.

Preferred Name Policy for Faculty and Staff

Augsburg College recognizes that some of its members use names other than their legal names to identify themselves. As long as the use of this different name is not for the purpose of misrepresentation, the College allows faculty and staff employees to use a first name different than the legal name on certain college records.

To request to have a preferred first name instead of a legal first name reflected within specific college records you should go to http://inside.augsburg.edu/it/policies/. The request goes to IT to implement the change. It takes approximately 5 business days for the change to be implemented.

Please note that changing your preferred name for certain records does not change your legal name with Augsburg College. The policy will have a list of records where preferred name and legal name may appear.

If you have had your name legally changed, you should complete an address & name change form found on the HR moodle site. That form will need to be submitted to HR with required documentation.

Get Target Gift Card for Participating in Research

Hello, my name is Michael Kantor and I am an Undergraduate Exercise Science student at Augsburg College. I am writing to invite you to be a participant in my study: Physical Activity Levels and Motivation in Urban Midwest College students, faculty and staff. This research is funded by URGO Summer Research Program and the Northland Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine Student Research Grant. Dr. Ana Ribeiro, Assistant Professor of Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science will be mentoring me during this project.

If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to fill out a short anonymous one-time survey about physical activity participation and motivation. You will also have the option to participate in an additional in-person fitness assessment that requires a 30-minute visit to Kennedy Center 309. You will be compensated upon completion of the survey with a $5 Target gift card and upon completion of optional fitness assessment, another $5 Target gift card.

It's Farmers Market Season - Input Needed

Whether you have been a faithful patron of the West Bank Farmers Markets since the beginning, or you have never heard of the markets, we need your input! Please take 5-10 minutes to complete the following survey for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the West Bank Farmers Market.

The Augsburg and Brian Coyle Farmers Markets are a project of Augsburg Campus Kitchen. They are one of several "mini farmers markets" in Minneapolis, meaning that they are limited to five vendors and focus on fresh produce vendors. The market brings in nearby farmers to sell their products directly to people who live, work, and study in Cedar-Riverside to ensure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food.

Get involved! New pilot program coming for Fall 2015: Fall Major/Career Exploration Weeks

To better support students in exploring options for majors and careers, Career & Internship Services is partnering with URGO to plan a new five-week program series for fall 2015 - and we hope you will be involved! (Details: http://www.augsburg.edu/strommen/calendar/fall-majorcareer-exploration-series/)

The program is designed to help students explore majors and careers by disciplines in alignment with our academic divisions, plus a week focused on pre-health and one designed to meet the needs of undecided students or those still exploring majors or careers.

During each of the five weeks Career & Internship Services and/or URGO will host a panel discussion featuring a mix of alumni, employers, faculty, and other experts linked to the majors and disciplines featured that week.

In addition, faculty, staff and students are invited to plan additional offerings during the weeks that most closely align to their major, department, or organization mission/focus (see list of dates below and online). Career & Internship Services will promote the full slate of offerings to students, provided information is received by our deadline.

The Fall 2015 weeks are scheduled as follows:

Week of Sept. 28: Fine Arts & Humanities
Week of Oct. 5: Natural & Social Sciences
