Apply for Off-campus Summer Research

Travel. Learn. Connect.

Get paid to conduct research with some of the nation's top academics at universities, labs, or institutes through a summer research program. There are programs designed for students in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and they often include a research stipend and housing. Such programs are a great way to enhance your education, meet new people, and explore a new city!

Application deadlines for these programs are most often near the start of next semester (January, February), so Winter Break is the perfect time to get started! URGO will be hosting a workshop January 17th where students will receive one on one advising and feedback on their applications. Students are encouraged to send their application essays to urgo@augsburg.edu prior to the workshop to make the most of the time.

$40,000 in Grants

It is not too early to start planning for summer. The Center for Teaching and Learning, the Faculty Development Committee, the Office of International Programs, and the Office of Academic Affairs would like to remind you that approximately $40,000 has been budgeted to support faculty scholarship, course design, and collaboration with our international partners. While the Faculty Development Committee is still making adjustments to grant amounts and application processes, the due dates have been set.

Free Meditation Sessions - Sign Up Now

Human Resources is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a community gathering featuring an opportunity to participate in a guided meditation session to help us relax and re-energize. Jill Englund will be leading four 15 minute guided mediation sessions. Additionally there will be Christmas themed refreshments. We hope you are able to stop over and refuel with a stress break.

The 15-minute session will begin with a short introduction to the science of meditation and how it can act as an antidote to the destructive effects of stress, including the added stressors that can accompany the joys of the holiday season.

Sessions guide participants through activities that are simple and easy, leading them to find their own corner of peace and wellbeing. No experience necessary but registration is required and space is limited.

ACYTI Journals

The 2014 Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute (ACYTI) Journal has been published! This past summer's ACYTI was an intense week of friendship, classroom learning, worship, solitude, contemplation, discernment, and action on Augsburg's urban campus for high school students from around the country interested in theology. At the end of their week-long journey they reflect on what they've taken away from the week and write a paper, which Augsburg then revises and publishes. This year's theme was, "OMC! Christian Community in the Internet Age" and focused on the impact of technology on the Christian Community. Take some time and read what current high school students are learning from Augsburg's intellectual and diverse community experience!

Centers of Commitment Program Evaluation Project

During the fall semester a project has been launched to create a process for systematic program evaluation of Augsburg's 4 Centers of Commitment: The Sabo Center, The Strommen Center, The Center for Global Education and the Christiansen Center for Vocation. There are three open sessions scheduled to share the proposed protocol with the campus and to gather feedback. Please join us at any of these sessions:
12-9 at 3pm in Cedar
12-12 at 11am in Marshall Room
12-15 at 10am in Marshall Room.

Food Service Hours

Tuesday 12/9/14
Nabo is open from 7:30am to 8:00pm. The Special of the Day is Mac n' Cheese.

Einstein's is open from 7:30am-9:00pm, with the late night menu starting at 7:00pm.

The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Grilled Garlic Pork Chops, Grilled Zucchini, Parsley Potatoes, and Quinoa with Caramelized Sweet Onion. Vege is serving Green Bean Casserole, Sautéed Mushrooms, Garlic Potato Fingers, and Curried Rice.

On December 12th from 11:00am-1:00pm in the Christensen Center Lobby there will be a meeting with The Food Service Director and a Dietician visit.

All Food Service Locations will be closing at 1:30pm on Friday December, 19th. Einstein's will be open weekdays from 7:30am to 1:30pm from December 22nd to January 9th. All Food Service Locations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day. The Commons will be reopening at 5:00pm on Sunday January, 11th. All Food Service Locations will be reopening with regular hours on Monday January, 12th.

Augsburg 2064

Please join Design students from ART 102 on Wednesday December 10th at 2:00 p.m. in the Christensen Center Fish Bowl as they present their final class project. Students were asked to envision Augsburg College in 2064 and create a 3 dimensional landscape using non-perishable food items as source materials. Students will share their concepts and approach during the presentation.
The installation will be on display until 12/15/14 and upon completion food items will be donated to the Augsburg Food Shelf.

Focused Conversation: 3:40 p.m. Today, OGC 100

The fall-term Focused Conversation wraps up this afternoon with the final discussion of "Telling the story of educating for lives of purpose."

Join us this afternoon at 3:40 p.m. in OGC 100 to discuss the strategic marketing picture and how each of us can engage in telling the story of the College.

Student Cooked and Crafted Meal this Wednesday

ENV 100, AugSem 101-10, ART 250, and the Campus Kitchen are teaming up for an epic meal! Enjoy local, sustainable, seasonal dishes, planned and prepared by ENV 100 students and pick a student-crafted bowl to keep and fill with soup made creatively from food pantry ingredients! Donations for bowls will support two local organizations: Breaking Free and the Bel13ve in Miracles Foundation. This special food comes with your meal plan or for the regular faculty/staff fee. Career Quick Stop

The Strommen Career and Internship Center will be holding Career Quick Stop weekly. These walk-in hours are meant for quick career questions and short resume reviews. Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: Students who are seeking career assessments or who want to talk about major/career exploration should schedule regular appointments instead of coming to Quick Stop.

Simply check in at Career & Internship Services (Christensen Center, Suite 100) during the Career Quick Stop times: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. - OR - Fridays from 10-11:30 a.m.
